First ‘Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning’ Trailer Promises High (Altitude) Stakes Action

First ‘Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning’ Trailer Promises High (Altitude) Stakes Action

Every choice has led to this. Finally, after a long wait and a stretched out production that has been delayed for many reasons, the first trailer for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning has arrived and we couldn’t be more excited.

It has been a long road to this destination: principal photography for the movie reportedly began on March 23rd, 2022 in the UK and it wasn’t until December 2022 when it was reported that filming in London had finished and they moved onto the next country. After filming officially wrapped, it was set to resume in July 2023 after press had finished for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning but just as the movie released, the Actors Guild strike began and thus filming was halted.

It wasn’t until March 2024 when everyone was back and filming had officially started up again but it was soon met with another delay after a major issue in May due to a submarine malfunction, presumably during a pivotal action scene in which they are involved. Then, in July 2024, a whole year after they were supposed to resume shooting and a year and a half after filming had begun, Simon Pegg confirmed on his Instagram that he had wrapped and likely the rest of the cast would finish soon after.

This movie has a lot riding on it after the predicted financial failure of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning. Despite having a 94% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it grossed just $570.6 million at the worldwide box office. Whilst this might seem like a high amount, it was reported by Variety that if the movie didn’t earn $600m, it would cause a loss of close to $100 million for the studio.

The amount it grossed is actually impressive when you consider that it was released at the beginning of an actors strike and right before the behemoth of Barbie and Oppenheimer and everyone knows how successful those movies did, taking screens and audiences away from Dead Reckoning. As a result, a lot more time has been given to 8 and the title has even been changed. This movie will not be referred to as Dead Reckoning Part Two but instead as The Final Reckoning.

The trailer plays in typical Mission Impossible fashion: quick cuts of scenes showing off the incredible visuals and action – which all look majorly upgraded from the other movies. The Final Reckoning looks to be a global mission on a grand scale, the visuals are spectacular and everything feels top notch: it’s truly the conclusion of a long standing narrative and it feels it. Whilst it may not be the end of the franchise, this feels huge and the stakes have never been higher. All of the big players are back and McQuarrie looks to have stepped up his game ten fold. If this teaser is any indication, this movie is going to be incredible and we can’t wait to see it.

Starring Tom Cruise, Hannah Waddingham, Hayley Atwell, Vanessa Kirby, Katy O’Brien, Simon Pegg, Nick Offerman, Ving Rhames and Henry Czerny. The film is directed by Christopher McQuarrie and written by Erik Jendresen and Christopher McQuarrie. Jake Myers, Christopher McQuarrie, and Tom Cruise serve as producers.
