What If…? returns for its third and final season in December, introducing to us the long awaited appearance of Phase 4 characters. Learn everything about the new What If…? Season 3 trailer below.
What If…? first began development in 2018 with the premise being an anthology series that explores branched timelines caused by different events occurring in the MCU films we already know. Marvel officially announced the project in April 2019. In August 2019, A.C. Bradley was announced as the head writer for the series with Bryan Andrews serving as the storyboard artist and director.
The first season premiered on Disney+ from August 11th 2021 to October 6th 2021. The second season would try a different approach, with a Christmas theme, the episodes dropped daily from December 22nd to December 30th in an event known as “The Nine Days Of What If…?”. A promotional website also went live that gave teases to future episodes and eventually a clip from the third season which featured the Winter Soldier, Red Guardian, and Giant Man.
In January 2024, we received new stills from the upcoming season which now included a Mech episode where Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), Monica Rambeau, and Bucky Barnes would all seemingly use themed mechs against an unknown enemy. At the end of October, we also got new snippets from the final season which included another scene from the mech episode alongside a Cowboy Shang-Chi and an invasion from the Nine Realms.
Fans previously saw some footage from these episodes at D23 in August. Fans saw the first logo at D23 Brazil which teased variants old and new such as Kahhori, Frost Giant Loki, Agatha Harkness, Moon Knight, Kingo, Arishem, White Vision, Storm, and more. Today we received the first trailer for the upcoming project. You can view it below:
We also received a poster for the final season which is the English version of the one shown at D23 Brasil featuring the same variants of Kahhori, Frost Giant Loki, Agatha Harkness, Moon Knight, Kingo, Arishem, White Vision, Storm, and more. You can view the poster below:
