The next live-action DC Universe series after Lanterns has begun filming, this time shooting scenes in Atlanta, with sequences following Gorilla Grodd, Jimmy Olsen, and Matter Eater Lad.

Filming has commenced on The People vs Gorilla Grodd, the first DCU set mockumentary and the first-ever solo project for both Gorilla Grodd and Jimmy Olsen. The production has been filming in Atlanta at the Georgia Institute of Technology, which on-set photography has revealed will be doubling as Metropolis University (or MetU for short).

The series is set to follow Jimmy Olsen as he documents the trial of Gorilla Grodd for the murder of his father in Gorilla City. The series logline reads as follows:

A superintelligent ape is convicted of murdering his father, the King of Gorilla City. In an eight-part “true” crime docuseries, the Daily Planet’s Jimmy Olsen reopens the case, investigating whether Gorilla Grodd was wrongly convicted in one of Metropolis’ most famous murder trials.

Grodd has been seen on set with an undisclosed actor (presumably VA Jimmy Tatro) in a gorilla suit. Scenes, presumably for flashback material within the trial, follow Grodd as a student at MetU, donning graduation garb, walking around with a presumed girlfriend, and singing to his lover. The song? Backstreet Boys’ “As Long as You Love Me”. There is also a scene of Grodd and classmates singing LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem”. Find some of the set photos courtesy of Twitter users below:

Skyler Gisondo and Eduardo Franco were also spotted on set playing Jimmy Olsen and a character heavily rumoured to be Matter Eater Lad, respectively. Gisondo reprises his role as Jimmy Olsen, the witty reporter of the Daily Planet who is directing the documentary about Grodd’s trial. This will be Franco’s debut in the DC Universe, though Matter Eater Lad was previously mentioned in Peacemaker Season 1.

The show hails from Dan Perrault and Tony Yacenda, with Tony Yacenda directing all eight episodes of the show. Besides Tatro, Gisondo, and Franco, other starring actors include Beck Bennett, Mikaela Hoover, Wendell Pierce, Mary Holland, Arian Moayed, Dan Perrault, Andrew Leeds, and Tim Baltz.
