‘Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning’ Reportedly Cost $400M
After a lukewarm box office haul for Dead Reckoning, that didn’t seem to shake Paramount’s nerves as they have doubled down on the budget for the next installment in the franchise.
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning reportedly carries a massive $400 million budget. This comes from Matt Belloni on the latest episode of his podcast, The Town.
The high figure raises some concerns given the box office performance of its predecessor, Dead Reckoning Part One. While that film was well received, it underperformed financially, grossing around $567 million worldwide—far from a failure, but not enough to justify such a huge price tag, especially considering the high expectations for the franchise. However, its release timing was a major issue, as it arrived just before the cultural phenomenon of Barbenheimer, which dominated the box office and overshadowed everything in its path. With The Final Reckoning now having a clearer runway, its chances of success are significantly higher.
It would be unfair to not mention that one of the factors as to why this budget is so high is due to Cruise’s commitment to the crew of these movies, and his care for them.
During the Hollywood writers’ and actors’ strikes, Cruise ensured that crew members were still paid, which contributed to the film’s overall costs but also showed his dedication to the people who make these movies possible.
That goodwill could pay off in the long run, as Cruise remains one of the few actors who can sell a movie based on name alone, and his dedication to practical stunts and high-intensity action keeps audiences coming back so if The Final Reckoning delivers the kind of spectacle this franchise has come to be known for, it could easily rebound and become one of the franchise’s biggest hits.

The film promises to deliver the kind of top-tier stunts and action that have made the series one of the most consistent and exciting franchises in Hollywood. Tom Cruise remains dedicated to pushing the limits of what’s possible in action filmmaking and with this being the supposed grand finale of Ethan Hunt’s journey, expectations are even higher.
It would be remiss to not mention Tramell Tillman, as this movie will be his first role in a major blockbuster and his first role after the huge success of Severance Season 2, which saw him showcase an amazing and exciting range that hopefully gets to be displayed here. His addition in this movie just adds to an already sky-high excitement level and we cannot wait to see it in cinemas this May.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning hits theatres on May 23, 2025.
