DC Studios’ ‘Clayface’ Working Title Revealed (Exclusive)
We can exclusively confirm the working title for James Watkins’ Clayface.
It’s been a wild few months for Clayface as a project. From getting the green light at DC Studios to hiring James Watkins as director and now weaselling down a shortlist of actors for the main role of Basil Karlo, the film is close to production. And now, we here at Feature First can exclusively reveal the working title for the project.
What Is The Working Title For DC Studios’ ‘Clayface’?
We can exclusively confirm that the working title for Clayface is ‘Corinthians’. The title is interesting, as it shares the name with many things. Historically, it’s a demonym relating to the ancient Greek city-state of Corinth, but perhaps more relevant is its link to Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman.
The Corinthian is the name of a living nightmare created by Dream of the Endless in The Sandman comics, as well as its Netflix series adaptation. The character serves as an antagonist after he goes rogue. His appearance is eerie, featuring gaping mouths for eyes, adorned by miniature teeth, that he usually hides behind blacked-out shades. He was played by Boyd Holbrook, a frequent collaborator of Swamp Thing director James Mangold, in the Netflix series, and Riz Ahmed in the podcast adaptation.
Both projects, Netflix’s The Sandman and Clayface, are horror-based, and with The Sandman coming to an end at Netflix, it might be time for The Corinthian to come over to the DC Universe.
[Editor’s Note: In our bustle to publish, we overlooked the biblical connection, with several Bible passages being named Corinthians.]

It is unknown how exactly this production title represents the vision of the film, which will seemingly follow actor Basil Karlo undergo a transformation in the pursuit of acting ability, in a manner similar to Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance.
Clayface is currently close to casting a lead, with Jack O’Connell, George Mackay, Leo Woodall, and Tom Blyth all in contention for the role of Basil Karlo. Once that is complete, expect updates on supporting cast members and more.

Clayface is directed by James Watkins, from a script by Mike Flanagan, and will be shot by cinematographer Rob Hardy. James Gunn and Peter Safran serve as executive producers on behalf of DC Studios and The Safran Company.
