‘Jumanji 3’ Gets A Christmas 2026 Release Date

During their 2025 Cinemacon panel, Sony officially revealed the release dates for a few of their upcoming movies, including the highly anticipated ‘Jumanji 3’.

'Jumanji 3' Gets A Christmas 2026 Release Date

After a long wait since Jumanji: The Next Level released in 2019, news has finally arrived on the sequel that will complete the trilogy and finish the current iteration of the Jumanji franchise.

Jumanji 3 will arrive in cinemas on December 11th, 2026.

The last film ended with a major cliffhanger—just as Spencer and his friends thought they had escaped the game for good, elements of the Jumanji world started spilling into the real world, much like in the original 1995 film. This opens up exciting possibilities for the new movie, as it may finally break the cycle of characters being sucked into the game and instead force them to survive in a world where Jumanji’s dangers are unleashed upon reality.

This narrative also acts as a good way to pay homage to the original movie and we will likely see the characters in similar situations to those we saw in the first outing. With the game elements coming to the real world, this also likely means that the characters in the game will and so we will see the ‘real life’ version of the characters be able to stand next to their in-game avatars, and probably even fight alongside them.

With the current trend of legacy sequels and old actors returning for new iterations in a franchise, we could see some of the original actors come back, such as Kirsten Dunst or Bradley Pierce as since the game is now coming to the real world again, our main roster of characters will likely need some help and will find themselves going to the original children who experienced it for advice.

The third film will also see the return of Jake Kasdan as its director, who did the previous two films. In between The Next Level and this third movie, he directed Red One, which currently has a 30% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes and also starred The Rock.

Unlike many blockbuster series that release sequels in quick succession, Jumanji 3 will arrive after a long break, much like its predecessors. Whilst other franchises get critiqued for gaps between movies, Jumanji has managed to evade the fury of fans.

The first reboot, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, arrived in 2017, The Next Level followed in 2019, and now, after a gap of over five years, the next installment is finally on the way.

The franchise has remained an unexpected box office juggernaut, defying expectations with each release. Both of the rebooted films grossed over $800 million worldwide, with Welcome to the Jungle getting very close to a billion, hitting $950 million.

Jumanji is a true dark horse in the world of blockbusters and so a third movie could push it over that total and remain consistently successful. Whilst it’s not one that demands a lot of attention online, it delivers a simple, fun, enjoyable adventure that transports you to their world for 2 hours and audiences clearly love it, so only time will tell if everyone returns for the third film.
