‘Superman & Lois’ Season 4 Theory: What Will Happen To Superman?

As we draw closer to the series finale of Superman & Lois, many fans are left wondering what exactly will happen to Superman. Find our Superman & Lois Season 4 theory below.

Following that explosive episode 8 last week, where it was revealed Clark Kent has heart disease which is depreciating his powers and his life, many audiences are struggling to figure out where the series will end. In the episode, John Henry Irons (Wolé Parks) takes Clark (Tyler Hoechlin) into the lab to test the hero following a heart transplant that resurrected him earlier in the season. It’s revealed that Clark has heart disease which is lessening his powers, to a point where he will no longer be superpowered, and then will die. This heart disease is due to the age of the heart as well as the origin, which is a human heart courteous of Lois Lane’s (Betsie Tulloch) father Sam Lane (Dylan Walsh), who injected his heart with a serum developed by Bruno Manheim (Chad Coleman) as a sacrifice before he was killed by Doomsday.

Right now the series could realistically go one of two ways for its finale: They kill Clark/have him retire and have the Supertwins take over or get the Man of Steel a new heart.

While the former theory is entirely likely, with no real reasoning to deny the possibility, I feel the latter fits better into the story. The show has already exemplified the willingness to transplant hearts, but the question remains whether or not the team behind the series wants to do it again. The reason I think this theory fits more than the other, is that Doomsday has not been seen for what is now the majority of the season.

At the beginning of the season, Doomsday killed Superman and removed his Kryptonian heart, rendering him dead and unrevivable. For a few episodes, he would then do Lex Luthor’s (Michael Cudlitz) bidding, and after killing Sam Lane, Lois would then talk him out of assisting Lex. She does this by appealing to Doomsday’s inner Clark, since after all, he is Clark Kent. That is right, since The CW’s version of Doomsday is a tortured and beefed up version of Bizarro Superman, Lois Lane appealed to his inner humanity and convinced him to stop the mistreatment of her family. Doomsday then flew off and has not been seen since, by the Kents or Luthor.

I think this is exactly what will happen, to ensure Clark is strong enough for his eventual final fight with Luthor, he will need a new heart. With the help of Doomsday, performing a final sacrifice to end his second life, he lends his heart to Clark, who would have it transferred at the Fortress of Solitude, just like the first time. It would give the monster a final role in this series as a farewell.

To be entirely fair, the final result of this season could very well be an amalgamation of the two, with Clark getting a transplant and retiring/leaving the heroics to his children. Whatever it may be, it will certainly be an exciting watch.

There’s also the matter of what will happen to Lex Luthor, will he end up in prison, or back in an endless comic-booky fight with Lois and Clark? What about the Milton Fine (Nikolai Witschl) version of Brainiac? There are a lot of questions left for us audience members, but only the episodes themselves have the answers.
