‘Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender’ Is Headed To (Some) Theaters

Here’s what you need to know about the film’s limited release. Read our article for all the details.

It turns out that fans will be able to see the Avatar: The Last Airbender franchise on the big screen after all as it’s just been announced that the upcoming sequel film, Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender will have a limited release in theaters alongside its streaming debut.

The decision to shift to a limited theatrical release was likely made to allow the film to be eligible at the Oscars for Best Animated Film and other categories. The whopping 12 Million Views on the YouTube trailer isn’t to be dismissed either.

Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender will be available from July 24th (a day before the Paramount+ release) to July 30th through select theatres in Los Angeles and New York. There will be three showtimes per day at the AMC Burbank Town Center 6 in LA and the AMC Empire 25 in Manhattan. Tickets are on sale now.

Those attending San Diego Comic Con also have the opportunity to catch an advance screening of the film also on July 24th.

What Is Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender About?

The film, set over a decade after the events of Avatar: The Last Airbender follows Aang and his friends as they search for an ancient power that could help revive the Airbender population. Along the way they run into a mysterious Airbender who was also frozen in ice and must face off against a villainous group who holds a grudge for the Avatar being absent for 100 years. You can read the official synopsis below:

“Based on the animated series created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, this new story in the Avatar universe sees Aang learn of an ancient power that could save his culture from extinction. With the help of his friends, he embarks on a global quest to find it before it falls into the wrong hands and threatens to upend the peace they sacrificed everything to achieve.”

Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender is directed by Lauren Montgomery and stars Eric Nam as Aang, Jessica Matten as Katara, Dave Bautista as Tagah and more. The film premieres on Paramount+ on July 25th, 2026.
