Cailee Spaeny, Tom Pelphrey, Drew Starkey & More, In Talks For Marvel Studios’ ‘X-Men’ Film

Casting for Marvel Studios’ highly anticipated X-Men film is deep underway and as we inch closer to Marvel Studios Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic Con, audiences are anticipating the first official castings for the mutant reboot. A range of conflicting sources are floating around online, so we have broken down the whos who of the MCU X-Men reboot.

Adam Driver: Magneto or Mr Sinister?

Previously revealed by Apocalyptic Horseman and MyTimeToShineHello was Adam Driver as Magneto. Apocalyptic Horseman, a former writer for Nexus Point News, has since updated his claim stating that the star will instead be playing Mr Sinister in the film and has signed on. This means that Adam Driver as Mr Sinister and Sadie Sink as Jean Grey are the two “confirmed” stars of X-Men.

Cailee Spaeny In Talks For Rogue Role

Moving onto actors and actresses who are in talks for the upcoming X-Men film, MyTimeToShineHello revealed that Cailee Spaeny was in talks for Rogue, a mutant with absorption powers who has historically been a part of the X-Men. Apocalyptic Horseman and insider Jeff Sneider would later confirm that this was indeed the case. Cailee Spaeny is an actress best known as the star of Alien: Romulus, Priscilla, and Civil War. Recently, she can be seen working with X-Men director Jake Schreier in Beef Season 2, where she starred alongside Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, and Charles Melton. Spaeny seems ripe for the role, given her Southern background matches the comic background of Rogue, who was last played in live-action by Anna Paquin.

Tom Pelphrey, Drew Starkey & Bill Skarsgård Join Professor X Shortlist

A potential shortlist for Professor Charles Xavier, or Professor X for short, has also emerged to conflicting reports. The list consists of Tom Pelphrey, Drew Starkey, and Bill Skarsgård according to Jeff Sneider, whilst Apocalyptic Horseman only confirms Task star Tom Pelphrey. Professor X is the leader of the X-Men, and the founder of the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters, which doubles as the headquarters for the team. Tom Pelphrey is coming off an Emmy nomination for his role in Task, and has previously appeared in Marvel’s Iron Fist, Ozark, and Banshee. Drew Starkey is best known for Outer Banks and Queer, whilst Bill Skarsgård is known for Nosferatu, Marvel Studios’ Eternals, and his role as Pennywise in Andy Muschietti’s IT franchise.

Jeff Sneider also reported that Michelle Randolph and Monica Barbaro are being eyed for roles in the film, with Sneider speculating that Randolph is in talks for Emma Frost, whilst Monica Barbaro is in talks for a character named Ruth. Apocalyptic Horseman claims that Michelle Randolph is not in talks. Randolph is best known for her role as Ainsley in Taylor Sheridan’s Landman, whilst Monica Barbaro is known for A Complete Unknown, Top Gun: Maverick, and Artificial.

Cooper Hoffman Eyed For Cyclops

Finally, Apocalyptic Horseman claims that Cooper Hoffman is just one of the names being eyed for the role of Cyclops. Cyclops, in many iterations, is one of the main leading operatives of the X-Men, and his inclusion in the film alongside Mr Sinister could see them adapting several iconic comics. Previously, Cyclops was played by James Marsden (who returns to the role in Avengers: Doomsday) and Tye Sheridan. Hoffman is best known for Licorice Pizza, The Long Walk, and Saturday Night and is the son of Philip Seymour Hoffman, acting royalty best known for his work with Paul Thomas Anderson.

X-Men is in development at Marvel Studios from director Jake Schreier, writers Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo, and stars Sadie Sink and Adam Driver.
