‘Spider-Man 4’ Gets New Title with ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’
During their annual presentation at Cinemacon, Sony officially unveiled the title for the next installment in the Spider-Man franchise and revealed some minor details.
Sony always comes to Cinemacon with Spider-related news, whether that’s spin offs that never see the light of day such as El Muerto and Hypno Hustler or actual updates everyone has been waiting for, such as a release date for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. This year, they have also brought an official title for Spider-Man 4, which is will be Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
This title has been theorised for years, with fans calling it straight after viewing Spider-Man: No Way Home. It’s worth nothing that Marvel has officially dropped the ‘Home’ from the title, which was a staple of the three previous Tom Holland Spider-Man films and by getting rid of this, it’s a quick way to signal that the character is about to go in a new direction and a new trilogy is beginning, separate from the ones that came before.
Many fans have theorised that this title could be related to the comic One More Day, due to the position that our MCU Peter Parker is in. Whilst there is a comic with the same title as the movie, Brand New Day, it relies more on his connection to the Green Goblin and working at the Daily Bugle, so there are less similarities – perhaps the title is a misdirect or implies a very loose adaptation.
One More Day features Peter Parker making a deal with Mephisto to erase his marriage with Mary Jane Watson in order to save Aunt May’s life. Of course, our MCU version of Peter Parker has already made the ultimate sacrifice at the end of his last movie and will now go to college in complete isolation, having to start over with no friends or connections to anyone as the memory spell erased him completely from everyone’s memories.
This leaves a vulnerability to still be exploited by any potential villain, as Parker will likely be left with a lot of guilt and regret over his decision, even if it was right for the safety of the multiverse.

This puts him in a perfect position for a story that explores temptation and the idea of undoing past mistakes. Rather than focusing on erasing a marriage like in the comics, an adaptation could center around Peter wrestling with the idea of undoing Doctor Strange’s spell so he can get back the life he lost. The concept of Peter being offered a way to restore his relationships, especially with MJ, but at a great cost, fits right into his current arc of isolation and growth.
Whilst the villain for the movie is not known and it may not even go down this path, we do know that Mephisto will seemingly be making his MCU appearance in Ironheart, meaning that him showing up in another MCU project would not be totally random.
On the stage at Cinemacon, director Destin Daniel Cretton stated that there will be “a new emotional story for Spider-Man” and that they are working on a new costume.
With the film following Doomsday and the multiverse likely being in shatters, Peter could see into the different lives that Spider-Man gets to live, and begin to feel envy. Perhaps Peter is given an opportunity by another villain or even a multiversal entity to rewrite reality, but must face major consequences in true Spider-Man fashion.
