Jake Gyllenhaal is one of the most versatile actors working today, and now he has a new project on lock— The Bride! — directed by his sister Maggie Gyllenhaal.
The next entrance in a long line of Frankenstein adaptations, The Bride!, is building quite the name for itself in terms of its attached creatives and cast. Consisting of some of the most widely loved actors of the last 20 years, it’s hard to not keep an eye on the production of this film.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in promotion for his next series, Presumed Innocent, the actor revealed he had been cast in the 2025 Halloween season flick. He will be joining Penélope Cruz, Christian Bale, Jessie Buckley, Peter Sarsgaard, Annette Bening, Julianne Hough, John Magaro, and Jeannie Berlin in the film.
Gyllenhaal is best known for his method roles such as Nightcrawler, Prisoners, Demolition and Donnie Darko as well as his involvement in the MCU Spider-Man trilogy as Quentin Beck / Mysterio. He began his career in the early 90s before making his breakout in Hollywood with 2001’s Donnie Darko, also starring Maggie Gyllenhaal (The Dark Knight).
Although Jake Gyllenhaal, Annette Bening (Nyad), Julianne Hough, John Magaro (Past Lives) and Jeannie Berlin are currently cast in undisclosed roles, we know the roles of some of the leads. Christian Bale (The Prestige) plays Frankenstein’s Monster, Jessie Buckley (Wicked Little Letters) plays his bride, Peter Sarsgaard (The Batman) plays a detective, and Penélope Cruz plays Myrna.
The film is currently scheduled for an October 3, 2025 release and is directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal. The film is currently in production.
