‘Clayface’ Official Trailer: The Tragic Tale Of Matt Hagen

In approximately 3 months, the DC Universe (DCU) dives into the horror genre with their first r-rated film, Clayface on October 23rd, 2026. This is the second theatrical film from the DCU for this year and is expected to close out the 2026 slate. To mark the occasion, DC Studios has just dropped the official trailer for Clayface which you can view below:

The trailer, which lasts for 2 minutes and 26 seconds, opens with Matt Hagen (Tom Rhys Harries) in a doctor’s office where he’s seen wearing a mask. Opposite him is Naomi Ackie’s character who asks Matt to take off the mask and show his face. He’s hesitant at first but agrees shortly after, we then cut to a shot of Gotham where the DC Studios logo appears. Matt is in his apartment where we see some of his things are being repossessed. The next scene shows Matt covered up and walking down the street, someone calls him a freak and we learn that Naomi Ackie is playing a character named Caitlyn as she asks Matt what he wants. He responds, “I want my life back,” a montage is shown of his life as an actor including him at the red carpet, meeting a woman at the club, going on a private jet and what appears to be a modelling shoot where he holds some sand in his hand, a tease at his upcoming fate.

Max Minghella’s detective character is seen discussing what happened to Matt over dinner, we then see a group of criminals break into his home and injure him. Matt tells Caitlyn that he’d like to volunteer for human trials which she warns him that it isn’t cosmetic surgery. He understands the risks and she proceeds to inject a strange substance into his face, we see his face doesn’t react well at first and he suffers a seizure but the treatment is seemingly successful as his face is healed (to Caitlyn’s surprise). Matt says he feels great and in the next scene Caitlyn warns him that she’s unsure what the side effects could be or how to treat them. We see a brief shot of Club Vesuvius before Matt is seen rubbing his eyes in a plane. His eyes seem to have been joined together and he immediately rushes to the bathroom to try to cut open again amidst turbulence. 

Next up, we see Matt running in an alleyway, he sees his reflection and his face seems to be melting. Caitlyn advises Matt to let go of any feelings of anger, perhaps hinting that his emotions are tied to how his body changes. When describing how he feels, we see Matt screaming into a mirror before he punches it. He continues that his trust has been betrayed, the justice system has failed him and his life has been ruined. In that moment we see some shots of Gotham and Matt appearing for trial sometime after he becomes disfigured. Caitlyn is being followed by someone in an alleyway of sorts and we see an extended look of Matt hiding in the bathtub, his body mostly turned to clay. He wipes his face and it’s restored to normal. As the tagline, “Look Fear In The Face” flashes on screen we get various shots of the film including a scene between Caitlyn and Matt, Matt (as Clayface) ready to attack someone, Matt attacking another person in an office and Matt transforming into Clayface. We hear Caitlyn say, “I have no idea who you are,” the trailer ends with her witnessing Matt transform into Clayface. 

What Is Clayface About?

Clayface follows the tragic tale of actor Matt Hagen who after getting terribly disfigured is determined to find a solution and get his career back, no matter the cost. Read the official synopsis below:

“Matt Hagen’s meteoric rise from Gotham street kid to Hollywood leading man is tragically cut short when a local crime boss’s actions leave him horribly disfigured. Abandoned by his team and with nothing left, Matt seeks out a cutting edge treatment that miraculously returns him to his former self… but also unexpectedly affects his grip on reality, spiraling him down a destructive path of all-consuming revenge.”

Clayface is directed by James Watkins and stars Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen / Clayface, Naomi Ackie, Max Minghella and more. The film hits theatres on October 23rd, 2026.
