Guillermo Del Toro’s adaptation of Frankenstein has wrapped filming and is set to release sometime next year on Netflix.
We’ve known for a while that the Oscar-winning director has been developing a film adaptation of the classic horror novel Frankenstein, which has had multiple iterations before. Del Toro said back in 2008 that he has “been dreaming of doing a Frankenstein movie since [he] was a child.”
The novel follows Victor Frankenstein, a mad scientist who brings a monster to life, who will be played by Oscar Isaac in the film. Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, and Christoph Waltz will also star with Jacob Elordi filling in as the monster for Andrew Garfield, who had to drop out due to scheduling issues.
Frankenstein Wrapped Filming
The film began production on January 25th earlier this year. Guillermo Del Toro posted today on X / Twitter that filming has wrapped after 9 months of production, quoting “Shooting has been completed on “F” – Joy!!!”.
When Is ‘Frankenstein’ Supposed To Release?
It’s unknown exactly when the film is set to release other than it would be some time next year. It’s speculated that it would premiere next year at Venice Film Festival, due to a few of Guillermo Del Toro’s previous films such as Nightmare Alley and The Shape of Water premiering there.
It’s also likely that Del Toro would be pushing for an awards season release because of his previous films getting nominated and winning awards, such as The Shape of Water winning the Best Picture Academy Award at the 2018 Oscars and Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio winning Best Animated Feature at the 2023 Oscars.
