DC Studios’ Sets Release Dates For ‘Clayface’ And More
DC Studios’ CEO James Gunn has confirmed a ‘Clayface’ film is in development along with a brand new release date.
Clayface has officially been greenlit at DC Studios and has received a late 2026 release date. The film follows Batman villain Clayface and will reportedly be a Horror/Tragedy. Clayface was first reported by Deadline back in March 2023 with Doctor Sleep director Mike Flanagan pitching the film to newly installed DCU heads James Gunn and Peter Safran.
This news was reinforced by insiders DanielRPK and Apocalyptic Horseman, with the latter of which revealing that while Flanagan was taking up writing duties, he would not be sitting in the director’s chair due to prior commitments on the new Exorcist reboot. This news was seemingly confirmed by Deadline this past Friday.
The character of Clayface also makes an appearance in an episode of Creature Commandos, where he is voiced by Alan Tudyk. Tudyk is not expected to reprise his role for the film as it has been rumored that Clayface will focus on a younger Basil Karlo.
When Does ‘Clayface’ Release?
Just two days later, James Gunn confirmed all the rumors surrounding the Clayface film and announced that it will release on September 11th, 2026.
The movie is expected to film early next year, but it currently has no director attached. Mike Flanagan has indeed written the script as well.
Other Announced Dates
Along with the confirmed release date for Clayface, we also got a date for DC’s animated Dynamic Duo film, which is set to hit theaters June 30th, 2028. That film follows the early days of the Robins, Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, and will be a mixed media animated project from Swaybox Studios.
Additionally, in this announcement there is an unknown film dated for March 5th, 2027.
Clayface is written by Mike Flanagan. Dynamic Duo is written by Matthew Aldrich and produced by Matt Reeves.
