‘The Odyssey’ Theatrical Teaser Trailer Footage Description

The first official The Odyssey teaser trailer is here and it showcases a lot of the mythical fantasy nature of the film.

'The Odyssey' Theatrical Teaser Trailer Footage Description

The Odyssey is perhaps the biggest film of Christopher Nolan’s career purely on the scale it’s trying to reach—luckily, that scale was on full display in the first trailer. Here is a footage description of the teaser trailer for The Odyssey

With Avatar: Fire and Ash currently in theaters, there have been a slew of new trailers that are premiering with it. To name a few Avengers: Doomsday, Digger, Disclosure Day, and The Odyssey.

Last week, The Odyssey released a 5-minute prologue exclusive to 70mm IMAX theaters ahead of the re-release of Sinners and One Battle After Another. That prologue is now playing in more IMAX theaters ahead of Avatar: Fire and Ash.

There is also a teaser trailer playing for the film in theaters right now. It’s a little over a minute and a half and is completely separate from the prologue. This trailer will be released online in the coming days. Most likely on Monday.

The trailer opens on the aftermath of a battlefield (likely the Trojan War). Agamemnon (Benny Safdie), the leader of the Greeks, is fitted out in full armor. Odysseus (Matt Damon) bows down to him.

We cut to Odysseus and his men walking through the woods as Odysseus starts to narrate “No one could stand between my men–.”

We cut to Ithaca, Odysseus’s kingdom, which he’s trying to get back to as he says, “and home.” We see quick shots of Telemachus (Tom Holland) and Penelope (Anne Hathaway), who are Odysseus’s son and wife, respectively.

It cuts to Odysseus and his men sailing through the sea as he continues to narrate, “not even me.”

A quick black screen with “FROM CHRISTOPHER NOLAN” pops onto the screen before we cut to the Trojan horse being pulled out of the sea by a metric ton of people as it is headed into the city of Troy.

We then see the inside of the horse. One of Odysseus’s men gets stabbed from the top of the horse by someone in Troy. Odysseus’s men quickly cover the mouth of the stabbed man to avoid a sound and risk being caught.

We cut to Odysseus walking into a cave with his men behind him. We see a quick reaction shot of Matt Damon’s shocked face as he stares at something. Then we see another shot where Odysseus and his men and startled by a massive creature (likely the Cyclops Polythemus) behind them that comes into frame.

We cut to soldiers running full speed towards the sea before it cuts to a misty shot where you can see a group of soldiers marching forward. Odysseus is then seen kneeling in a reaction shot. Then we cut to another angle where a figure of sorts rises from the ground. We cut back to Odysseus as he sees it rise. Then we see a shot of what seems to be dead soldiers who have risen, hinting that Odysseus is in the Underworld.

We see a ship in what seems to be a dangerous voyage with bad weather conditions. A man is blown away from the ship into the sea. Then we see men rowing the boats as Odysseus get in on the action to row as the boat rocks back and forth.

We cut to a shot of Odysseus as Penelope holds his face saying “Promise me you will come back.” to which Odysseus responds with, “What if I can’t?” We finally cut to the title card and the release date and then a final message saying the film was shot entirely in IMAX film cameras, which makes it the first ever film to do so.
