Robert Eggers’ ‘Werwulf’ Casts Aaron Taylor-Johnson & Lily-Rose Depp
Robert Eggers is set to begin filming his next film, Werwulf, in September, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Lily-Rose Depp are the leads.
Announced back in January of this year, following the huge success of his previous film, Nosferatu, a reimagining of the infamous 1920s horror story, which itself adapted Bram Stoker’s iconic novel, director Robert Eggers is ready to go for his next film. The American filmmaker is nearing production start on his next film, the gothic horror Werwulf, set in Medieval England with the film officially in the casting stage. This was revealed a few weeks back when UKCastingNews revealed extras are currently being cast for scenes being shot in Elstree, England, where production is set to begin.
Now, news outlet Nexus Point News has revealed that Eggers is set to reunite with not one, but two of his previous collaborators for the Werwulf film. As the lead, the titular werewolf, is Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who previously worked with Eggers on Nosferatu and was most recently seen as Jamie in Danny Boyle’s 28 Years Later. He is best known for his roles in Kickass, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and 2014’s Godzilla remake.
Lily-Rose Depp, who starred as one of the leads of Nosferatu, is also set to join Taylor-Johnson in Werwulf, playing his character’s wife. In Nosferatu, she played Ellen Hutter, a young woman who is plagued with nightmares of Count Orlok, setting the events of the movie off. Elsewhere, she is best known for her role in HBO’s highly controversial The Idol, as well as being the daughter of Johnny Depp.

Nexus Point News also reports that the film is set to be the goriest Eggers film to date and will heavily feature elements of witchcraft. Both Eggers’ The Witch, starring Anya Taylor-Joy, and The Northman, starring Alexander Skarsgard, featured witchcraft heavily, but it seems with the gothic tone Werwulf is going for, it will lay it on even heavier than he has previously.
It is also possible that Willem Dafoe joins the cast of this film too, being a heavy collaborator with the director. He himself appeared in 2019’s The Lighthouse, 2022’s The Northman, 2024’s Nosferatu, and is reportedly being eyed for a role as Ebeneezer Scrooge in an adaptation of A Christmas Carol, directed by Eggers.
Robert Eggers’ Werwulf stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Lily-Rose Depp. The film is set to hit theatres, Christmas 2026.
