It’s been nearly three years now since Godzilla Minus One hit the big screens. The film became a breakout hit around the world and even earned an Academy Award for best VFX. Now, director Takashi Yamazaki is back with a sequel, Godzilla Minus Zero, which just got its first teaser revealed this week at CinemaCon.

What Happens In The Teaser For ‘Godzilla Minus Zero’?

This first teaser is but a small taste of what’s to come, clocking in at a lean 48 seconds (6 of which are taken up by title cards). We first see the remains of Tokyo from the end of the last film as we hear English narration over the devastation. The voiceover states that if “their operation fails,” maybe “we’ll get to use it.” It’s not entirely clear what “it” could be, but the film is said to revolve around US nuclear tests, so this could be one hint towards a nuke.

A title card is shown on screen stating that it’s been two years since the end of the last movie, taking place in the year 1949. Black and white footage of ships in the ocean surrounding something festering under the water is featured as a new voice is commanding someone to “abort third drop.” Noriko (Minami Hamabe) returns from the previous film and watches over her adopted daughter, Akkiko (Sae Nagatani), sleeping peacefully.

Shikishima (Ryunosuke Kamiki) flies through what looks to be some type of anti gravity field in a plane and a foot stomps on a Tokyo city corner. A plane is skiing across the water as a new mutated form of Godzilla rises from the depths behind it, the Kaiju is adorned with giant spikes all over his body. We get the main title card and then end on the main money shot of the trailer, Godzilla walks past the Statue Of Liberty in New York City.
