‘Dune: Part Three’ First 7 Minutes Shown Off At CinemaCon
Attendees had the opportunity to watch the first seven minutes of ‘Dune: Part Three’ this week at CinemaCon. Read our full breakdown.
This week at CinemaCon has been a big one so far. Yesterday, at the Warner Bros. panel, a huge slate of films were shown off ranging from ones yet to release this year, all the way to ones far off in 2028. To end the night though, exhibitors and journalists were treated with a presentation from Dune: Part Three director Denis Villeneuve and stars Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, and Jason Momoa. To cap off the segment, attendees got a chance to watch the first seven minutes of the highly anticipated film.
What Happens In The Opening Of ‘Dune: Part Three’?
The footage opens with credits as a slow beating of a Fremen Thumper device plays, over time the sound becomes louder as more join the cacophony. The scene shown begins with shots we saw in the 70mm IMAX trailer of rectangular ships descending upon a rainy world. One drop ship gets struck by a bolt of lightning and falls out of the sky.

We cut to inside another one of these ships where legions of Fremen troops are getting ready for their imminent invasion. Farok (Isaach De Bankolé) is leading the group in a chant, the same one heard in the trailers. Farok’s presence and the heavy rains seems to indicate that the world they are about to overtake may be a mixture of two separate planets from the book, Enfeil and Naraj. The Fremen land on this planet and Stilgar (Javier Bardem) leads the group into a battle that multiple people have described as being similar to the opening of Saving Private Ryan.
The Fremen seem out of their depth at first due to the unfamiliar conditions present on this new world and they take heavy losses from a turret tower that bursts out of the ground. Stilgar attempts to use shield piercing explosives on the structure, but it’s no use. Another couple Fremen are shown with a strange device that is likely to be a Stone Burner from the novel. This footage ended here and attendees were shown a sizzle reel / trailer.

In this trailer, Paul (Timothée Chalamet) and the Ghola, Hayt (Jason Momoa), get more screen time with Hayt mentioning that the Emperor is “way past redemption” due to the countless deaths across the universe as a result of his Jihad. Chani (Zendaya) is shown reading some Dune Tarot cards and Paul talks about how his visions are clouded by something. Hayt and Paul are at the shrine of his father Duke Leto’s skull at one point and Paul yells at the Ghola to “remember!” his past as Duncan Idaho. The footage ends with some fight on the back of a sandworm with Chani, Paul, and other Fremen involved.

Dune: Part Three hits theaters December 18th and is directed by Denis Villeneuve. The film stars Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Anya Taylor-Joy, Robert Pattinson, Jason Momoa, Florence Pugh, Javier Bardem, Isaach De Bankolé, and Rebecca Ferguson.
