The first official trailer for Creature Commandos has just released at New York Comic Con, bringing with it mayhem, disorder and many many monsters.
The series was first announced on January 31st, 2023 in a video titled “Chapter 1 – Gods and Monsters | DC Studios | DC” where James Gunn shared his vision for this new universe. In the video, Gunn explains how DC has been “disconnected” in film and television and how it is now his and Safran’s job to make sure the new DCU is connected in film, television, gaming, and animation.
Creature Commandos will be the first animated series in the DCU set after the events of Peacemaker Season 1 and will lead into the events of Peacemaker Season 2. The teaser trailer was released on July 26th, 2024. It revealed that the use of human prisoners as expendable black ops operatives was no longer allowed, likely a result of the events of The Suicide Squad. This teaser also introduced us to our new cast of characters.
Today, as part of the New York Comic Con Creature Commandos panel the official trailer has been released, giving us more details on the plot of the series. You can view the trailer below:
What Happens In The ‘Creature Commandos’ Trailer?
The trailer opens outside Belle Reve, Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) tells Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo) that he’s been caught up in the middle of an international incident. We cut to Circe (Anya Chalotra) who attacks Princess Ilana Rostovic (Maria Bakalova). Rick Flag witnesses The Bride (Indira Varma) murdering Congorilla during Lunch. We get a new introduction to each member of Task Force M now with added flashbacks.
The Creature Commandos are brought to the kingdom where Princess Ilana resides, they are then attacked by an unknown group a few seconds later. Some more action and the logo appears after the team is seen exiting the plane. Finally, the end of the trailer sees GI Robot (Sean Gunn) mistake Dr. Phosphorus (Alan Tudyk) for a Nazi and is ready to attack. To GI’s disappointment, Dr. Phosphorus is not a Nazi.
The synopsis is as follows:
Creature Commandos tracks a secret team of incarcerated monsters recruited for missions deemed too dangerous for humans. When all else fails…they’re your last, worst option.
Creature Commandos is written by James Gunn and stars Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Frank Grillo as General Rick Flag Sr, Steve Agee as John Economos and more. The series premieres on Max on December 5th, 2024 and is produced by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation.
