Julian Rush IS Scarecrow: Here’s Why (‘The Penguin’ Easter Egg Breakdown)

Julian Rush IS Scarecrow: Here’s Why (‘The Penguin’ Easter Egg Breakdown)

An eagle-eyed Reddit user spotted some Scarecrow easter eggs in The Penguin’s fourth episode. Find out why Julian Rush is Scarecrow.

Following a report earlier this year from YouTuber BobaTalks, where it was revealed an adaptation of Scarecrow would be in The Penguin, it seems we have some concrete confirmation that Theo Rossi’s Julian Rush is actually an adaptation of the Batman villain Scarecrow.

A few background props found in The Penguin episode 4, thanks to /u/BebehBokChoy on Reddit, seem to depict some Scarecrow-connected memorabilia. In a few select shots in Julian Rush’s office during the counseling session with Sofia Gigante (née Falcone), a Scarecrow-like syringe glove can be seen on a pedestal stand, as well as what looks to be a mask.

It’s important to note that these props were not present in episode 2, where the office was also showcased. Theo Rossi actually liked a post by BobaTalks, popularizing the Reddit post. A post where Rossi replied to the earlier July rumour also surfaced as seen below:

Our next piece of the puzzle is a reply from the series’ production designer, Kalina Ivanov. In a post on her Instagram account, the designer replied to a comment that proposed the query “What can you say about the scene in episode 4 at Rush’s house where we see gloves on his table that look like the scarecrow’s?”. Ivanov replied with a response that reads:

“We left it up for interpretation. The hands are from Bali.”

Her reply has since been deleted leading to audiences speculating about the reason as to why it was deleted.
