A new report suggests the Sons Of Anarchy alum had been cast as Scarecrow in DC’s The Penguin.
It’s no secret that The Batman director and universe helmer Matt Reeves is excited to introduce Batman’s Rogues Gallery into his adaptations of DC’s Dark Knight. With The Batman, he already tackled The Riddler (Paul Dano), The Penguin (Colin Farrell), Catwoman (Zoe Kravitz) and teased The Joker (Barry Keoghan).
He’s further fleshing out Colin Farrell’s Oz Cobblepot in HBO’s The Penguin, leading many to speculate what DC villains could be involved in the series. A new report from YouTuber BobaTalks has fans wondering if the next Batman villain to join the saga will be none other than The Scarecrow.
The YouTuber first commented on the possibility back in December of 2023, stating that Jonathan Crane, the identity of Scarecrow in the comics, would feature in the Arkham portion of the series. He added that an actor had been cast and that the character would interact with Cristin Milioti’s Sofia Falcone. He also stated to take this rumour with a grain of salt, as anything unofficial isn’t fully trustworthy.
Now, a little over 7 months later, BobaTalks has further commented on the scoop. Starting off he solidifies the validity of his sources, stating they are as “legit as they come” but acknowledging that things may have changed between the origin of the scoop and the release of the series.
He then reveals that the actor for Scarecrow in the series would be Theo Rossi, who previously worked with Matt Reeves on Cloverfield. Further, the YouTuber states that his source wouldnt allow him to reveal back in December that Theo Rossi was the actor and that the name had been changed to Julian Rush. He clarifies that both he and his source are now confused about Rossi’s character, unsure if Julian Rush is a stand-in for Jonathan Crane, loosely based on the comic, or a new character entirely.
Whatever may be the result, Theo Rossi has been cast as Dr. Julian Rush in HBO’s The Penguin, alongside Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot / The Penguin, Cristin Milioti as Sofia Falcone, Rhenzy Feliz as Victor Aguilar, and Clancy Brown as Salvatore Maroni. The Penguin will stream on HBO and Max beginning September 19, 2024.
