‘Joker: Laugh Riot’ Anime Announced At Annecy Festival
DC Studios is set to undergo production on their first anime series featuring the Clown Prince of Crime.
Just announced during the “World’s Finest Animation: DC Studios & Warner Bros. Animation” panel at Annecy Animation Festival, The Clown Prince of Crime is set to headline an upcoming anime series from DC Studios titled Joker: Laugh Riot. The series is helmed by Yasuhiro Aoki (The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, ChaO) with animation done by Sola Entertainment Of Japan in collaboration with Warner Animation and DC Studios.
The series, set after the murder of Batman, will follow Joker as he tries to uncover who killed the Dark Knight and took away his right to kill Batman himself. Read the official logline below:
“When Batman is murdered, the Joker launches a ruthless crusade through Gotham’s underworld to find the killer who took away his greatest adversary. But as his violent quest for answers pushes him closer towards vigilante than villain, Joker is forced to confront the truth that without Batman, he doesn’t know who he is.”
This isn’t the first time that Joker has appeared in anime, before DC Studios was formed Joker could be found as the overarching antagonist in Suicide Squad Isekai where he’s voiced by Yūichirō Umehara in Japanese and Scott Gibbs in English. Joker: Laugh Riot however appears to be its own thing rather than a continuation of that project.
While no release window is set for Joker: Laugh Riot there’s still lots to look forward to from the animated side of DC Studios including Creature Commandos Season 2, My Adventures With Green Lantern, Starfire, Super Powers, Krypto Saves The Day! Season 2, My Adventures With Superman Season 3 (which is currently ongoing), Batman: Caped Crusader Season 2 (streaming on Prime Video on July 31st) and the Batman: Knightfall Trilogy which just had its first trailer.
Joker: Laugh Riot is created by Yasuhiro Aoki, the series is coming soon.
