‘Absolute Batman’ Animated Series Announced At Annecy Festival
DC Studios has just greenlit an animated adaptation of the hit comic book series, here’s what we know so far.
Following up on the popularity of the Absolute series of comics from DC which began publication in October 2024 with Absolute Batman and Absolute Wonder Woman, DC Studios has just greenlit an Absolute Batman animated series. The announcement was made by Peter Safran, Sam Register and during the “World’s Finest Animation: DC Studios & Warner Bros. Animation” panel at Annecy Animation Festival.
The adult animated series will see the return of Absolute Batman creators Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta who will write the script and handle the art respectively. In addition, Scott Snyder also serves as executive producer and showrunner, with Dragotta as producer.
The story of Absolute Batman follows 24 year old civil engineer Bruce Wayne who when night falls acts as a vigilante called Batman equipped with his self-made gadgets and armor. This version of Bruce Wayne is one who grew up without wealth in Crime Alley. Many of his foes including Killer Croc, the Riddler, and the Penguin are childhood friends while The Joker is reimagined as a billionaire.
Those in attendance mentioned that Absolute Batman will be a fully CG animated show with a 360 degree model of Batman shown at the panel.
At this time only an adaptation of Absolute Batman has been announced, adaptations for the Absolute Universe variants of Wonder Woman, Superman, Flash, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter and Green Arrow are yet to be announced but those may depend on the reception of Absolute Batman.
It’s unclear when Absolute Batman will release, DC Studios already has a pipeline of upcoming animated projects in the works including Creature Commandos Season 2, My Adventures With Green Lantern, Starfire, Super Powers, Krypto Saves The Day! Season 2, My Adventures With Superman Season 3 (which is currently ongoing), Batman: Caped Crusader Season 2 (streaming on Prime Video on July 31st) and the Batman: Knightfall Trilogy which just had its first trailer.
Absolute Batman is created by Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta, the series is coming soon.
