Beast Boy: Lone Wolf is a series of shorts that see the titular hero make a name for himself solo under a new name, “The Lone Wolf”. Greg Cipes reprises his Teen Titans Go! role as an older Garfield Logan / Beast Boy as stated by the synopsis, “Sit back and enjoy the complete series of Beast Boy: Lone Wolf. The silliest Teen Titans Go! member is older… but is he wiser?”

What first drew me to the series was the art style, it felt like a good evolution to the Teen Titans Go!’s style. The series was animated well though it did feel disoriented at times seeing Beast Boy’s face on some of his transformations, I’m more used to the transformations representing the exact animal but having Beast Boy’s voice.

Due to the approximate 3-minute runtime of each episode, there’s not much you can flesh out but I was able to follow along pretty easily, there’s often some lovely exchanges between Beast Boy and series regular Mickie (Liv Andrusier), a fan of Beast Boy who’s often ends up being involved in his adventures in one way or the other. There’s especially one moment where Mickie hypes Beast Boy up to achieve new feats though it’s short-lived when another superhero takes the spotlight.

The series also felt like random adventures with no real meaning attached to each other in the first half of the series. However, you quickly get to experience everything tying together in the second half when Beast Boy’s past victories come to haunt him.

With the series being a successor to Teen Titans Go! the comedy aspect might worry some. From my experience, the series doesn’t rely on the butt humor of its predecessor except for one scene and there is of course a reference to the 2003 Teen Titans series. But overall it comes down to Beast Boy’s silliness and personality that really brings the humor.

I also appreciate the rogues gallery that we got in the series, if it weren’t for this series I worry that they wouldn’t have gotten the time to shine in any media other than comics. There was also a more well-known villain to those familiar with The Suicide Squad however we didn’t get to see Beast Boy test his might against him due to some super interference.

Overall I enjoyed this series, should there be an opportunity for more to be created I would be absolutely excited to watch. It being a shorts format series made it easy to digest and easily accessible no matter how busy someone may be. The artstyle only helps to make it more welcoming and friendly to any audience.
