Adam Driver has reportedly joined the MCU, bringing the villain Magneto to the big screen.

Adam Driver Reportedly Cast as Magneto in Marvel Studios' 'X-Men' Film

After years of speculation and nonsense rumours, it does seem that Marvel Studios is finally making progress on their upcoming X-Men film from Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier. A new rumour has been circulating that framed Adam Driver as being cast as the third live-action Magneto and as the villain of the next X-Men reboot.

The rumour was first circulated by dubious source MyTimeToShineHello on Twitter, who shared that Star Wars star Adam Driver would play the villain of the film, though reputable former insider Apocalyptic Horseman (@ApocHorseman on X) quoted the tweet and revealed it was true and that he will be playing Magneto.

Magneto in the comics was first created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby back in 1963, first appearing in The X-Men. He’s perhaps the most famous foe of the X-Men and poses a huge threat to the team with his magnetic powers. Driver joins legendary actor Ian McKellen (who reprises the role in Avengers: Doomsday) and Michael Fassbender (last seen playing the role in X-Men: Dark Phoenix) as the only three actors to play the role in live action.

Driver is best known for his role as Kylo Ren / Ben Solo in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, a role which garnered a lot of recent buzz when director Steven Soderbergh had a potential solo film for the character cancelled by Lucasfilm. Elsewhere he has appeared in buzzy films such as Marriage Story, Blackkklansman, Silence, House of Gucci, and Ferrari. He also was previously in talks to play Reed Richards in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, where the role eventually went to Pedro Pascal.

Marvel Studios’ X-Men film is currently undated though Sadie Sink is expected by many fans to join the cast of the film as Jean Grey, following her rumoured outing as the character in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
