Hugh Jackman “Doesn’t Feel Like It’s The End” When It Comes To Playing Wolverine
In a recent one-on-one interview with Cynthia Erivo, Hugh Jackman revealed that he may have more Wolverine in him.
Following the success of Deadpool & Wolverine, the long awaited team-up between Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson / Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Logan / Wolverine, it has been up in the air whether Jackman would reprise his role again. That question seems to be have answered in a recent Actors on Actors episode for Variety with a conversation between Hugh Jackman and Cynthia for their awards campaigns for Song Sung Blue and Wicked: For Good, respectively.
In the interview, Jackman addresses the emotional franchise-ender of Logan, stating “It really felt like the end after Logan.” Jackman’s character did of course die at the end of the James Mangold directed film, leaving the legacy of mutants on the shoulders of his clone, X-23 (Dafne Keen). That film’s emotional weight and farewell for its characters was first undone by Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness which saw the return of Patrick Stewart as Professor Charles Xavier, and then undone again in Deadpool & Wolverine.

Jackman continues:
“If I look back, I needed to claim it as the end, truth. Because I really believed in some things that I wanted that movie to be, and I had to fight for them, and I think I had to say ‘This is the last time I’m doing it, and I don’t mind not doing it. And we did it… Then I went, ‘You know what? I changed my mind.’ It’s not that big of a deal. I’m not even gonna say I’m sorry. And it was so awesome.”
Jackman also stated that it “doesn’t feel like the end” of his tenure as Wolverine, which itself subtly implies his involvement in at least one of the upcoming Marvel Studios films. Theoretically, this could be one of three things. The first, Avengers: Doomsday, the upcoming fifth Avengers film that is currently in post production. A variety of leaks suggest the actor is in the film, but as always, take these with a grain of salt. The second, would be Avengers: Secret Wars, which is sure to feature even more characters than Avengers: Doomsday.
The third option is the Deadpool/X-Men team-up film that Ryan Reynolds is developing at Marvel Studios. Due to how successful Deadpool & Wolverine was, it seems likely that we will see Deadpool and Wolverine as a duo again sooner rather than later.

Jackman will next be seen in Song Sung Blue from Focus Features, a biopic about a Neil Diamond cover band. Next year he will star in Michael Sarnoski’s The Death of Robin Hood, Kyle Balda’s The Sheep Detectives (where he reunites with Patrick Stewart), and in 2027, The Bluey Movie.
