The webhead is back in animated form with Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, formerly Spider-Man: Freshman Year, today a teaser trailer has been released for the upcoming series ahead of its January release date.
First announced as Spider-Man: Freshman Year during the “Marvel Studios’ 2021 Disney+ Day Special”, the series was promised to be an origin story for Peter Parker and describe how he becomes Spider-Man in the MCU. Jeff Trammell was also announced as the writer.
A year later during SDCC 2022, we learned that season 2 was greenlit under the title Spider-Man: Sophomore Year. It was also revealed that Norman Osborn would be Peter’s mentor in the series, a distinct branch in the story that we know from Captain America: Civil War where Tony Stark is the one that recruits him to join his team. Some characters we’ll see were also teased such as Daredevil (voiced by Charlie Cox), Amadeus Cho, Pearl Pangan and more.
Ahead of the release of What If…? Season 2, we learnt that Spider-Man Freshman Year was renamed to Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. It’s unclear how this change would impact the future of the series’ second season, originally titled Spider-Man: Sophomore Year.
During D23 2024’s Marvel Animation panel, attendees were given new footage from Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. It showed how Doctor Strange will make a major impact in Peter Parker’s origin story as Spider-Man. Additionally, we learnt that Colman Domingo will voice Peter Parker’s mentor, Norman Osborn.
A month later, we saw the announcement of a Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man prequel comic series which will see Peter Parker learning about his powers, deciding on his name, creating his first costume and more. The five-issue limited series will be written by Christos Gage and drawn by Eric Gapstur. The first issue will be released on December 11th.
Finally, we have our first official look at the series with the official trailer. You can view the trailer below:

What Happens In The ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’ Trailer?
The trailer opens off in more of a school setting, where Peter clumsily interacts with his peers before transitioning into more hero action, with Spidey using his powers and a proto-suit to stop crime. Soon he crosses paths with Norman Osborn, who gives him a suit as well as a white and black suit, the Future Foundation suit.
