The trailer opens with Rafiki telling Kiara, Pumbaa, and Timon a story about Scar (Taka) and Mufasa, two brothers who went on a journey to find a new home and a new family. After a shot of the savannah, we cut to nighttime where Scar and Mufasa encounter Sarabi who says she’s looking for her pride. Mufasa and Taka ask Sarabi to join them saying she has no one, Zazu then flys down saying “she does have someone.”

Following a montage of the main cast, we get introduced to a young Rafiki who Taka tries to eat. Rafiki responds “If you take my life, you will never find where you are going.” Sarabi casts her doubts asking “you expect us to follow this hallucinating baboon?” Before we see a shot of Rafiki playing in the snow, we then hear Sarabi follow up by saying “No offense.”

The group then encounter Kiros who threatens them by saying “there will be one lion king.” Another shot sees Mufasa saying “We have to carry on. We owe that to each other.” The group are trapped in a herd of elephants, Sarabi knocks down a bee’s nest and we hear Zazu say “I never signed up for this.”

We see Kiros and his crew run through the forest and then later arrive at a waterfall cornering Mufasa and Taka. Kiros says “We have come to rule without mercy,” we then see Mufasa and Taka jump off the ledge into the nearby river. We cut to Mufasa saying “I will not bend to evil! We must fight together” followed by the kingdom fighting Kiros’ crew. The next scene shows Rafiki saying “We are nearing destiny, Mufasa… and so the earth must shake” as we see a part of the mountain begin to crumble.

We cut to various scenes including Zazu being cornered and rescued, Mufasa and Sarabi walking together, mountains beginning to fall, and more. The trailer ends with the title card, cast, and release date.

The synopsis is as follows:

Exploring the unlikely rise of the beloved king of the Pride Lands, “Mufasa: The Lion King” enlists Rafiki to relay the legend of Mufasa to young lion cub Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala, with Timon and Pumbaa lending their signature schtick. Told in flashbacks, the story introduces Mufasa as an orphaned cub, lost and alone until he meets a sympathetic lion named Taka—the heir to a royal bloodline. The chance meeting sets in motion an expansive journey of an extraordinary group of misfits searching for their destiny—their bonds will be tested as they work together to evade a threatening and deadly foe.
