Prime Video’s ‘Blade Runner 2099’ Series Wraps Production
Prime Video’s latest franchise spin-off show, Blade Runner 2099, has just wrapped production.
Prime Video has had a great last few years, with the stand out seasons from IP shows like The Boys, Gen V, Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power, Invincible, and others, and it seems like the streaming service is aiming to make 2025 even better with Blade Runner 2099 wrapping production earlier this week.
Spinning off the iconic Ridley Scott-helmed franchise of the same name, 2099 follows chameleon Cora, played by Cuckoo star Hunter Schafer, as she lives her day to day life switching identities. Soon, she chooses one final identity and teams with the replicant Olwen (Michelle Yeoh) who faces her own struggles. Read the synopsis below:
In Los Angeles 2099, Cora lived her entire life on the run, a chameleon forced to adopt numerous identities. To secure a stable future for her brother, she assumes one final identity and is forced to partner with Olwen, a Replicant who’s confronting the end of her life.
The show began production back in May and now this week, the series wrapped filming with main cast actors Hunter Schafer, Michelle Yeoh, and Tom Burke, finishing their shoots. This was revealed in an Instagram post from director Karena Evans, who posted a carousel of behind-the-scenes images announcing the wrap of production. See some of those pictures below:
Blade Runner 2099 serves as a sequel to both Ridley Scott’s iconic 1982 film Blade Runner, starring Harrison Ford, and its legacy sequel- Denis Villeneuve’s 2017 film Blade Runner 2049, starring Ryan Gosling, Jared Leto, Ana de Armas, and Harrison Ford. The film’s are known for their futuristic take on today’s society, credited with popularizing a cyberpunk style of science fiction.
Blade Runner 2099 stars Hunter Schafer as Cora, Michelle Yeoh as Olwen, Tom Burke, Dimitri Abold, Lewis Gribben, Katelyn Rose Downey, Maurizio Lombardi, and Daniel Rigby. The series is expected to be released in 2025 on Prime Video.
