A Q&A event for director Martin Scorsese occurred at the Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville, New York following a screening for his new Powell and Pressburger documentary, Made in England. Reported by World of Reel, the director was asked what was next for his career. Scorsese responded that he’s working on a “limited series” and that he wants to direct more episodes than just the pilot:

I found that if I were to do a series, and I tried, I was only able to direct the pilot episodes. With Vinyl, by the end of the first season, I felt like I should have been more involved.

Martin Scorsese added on to his response that he doesn’t want to do another big film with hundreds of extras again as well. This could hint that Scorsese’s Sinatra biopic and adaptation of David Grann’s novel “The Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny and Murder” may not be happening or are at least put on hold.

This also comes after reporting that his upcoming film, an adaptation of Shūsaku Endō’s novel “A Life of Jesus”, will only be 80 minutes long, a turn away from his 3 hour and 20 minute runtime for Killers of the Flower Moon

Scorsese hinted that an adaptation of the Marilynne Robinson novel “Home” may be his next project lined up after A Life of Jesus. A Life of Jesus has been reported to start shooting in Israel, Italy, and Egypt later this year. Furthermore, the film has been reported to reunite Scorsese with Andrew Garfield again after shooting Silence together back in 2015, which was an adaptation of another Endō novel. Miles Teller has also been rumoured to be joining the film, but there’s no clear indication yet.
