Nicolas Cage Confirms He Will Star In ‘True Detective’ Season 5
Nicolas Cage has revealed he will indeed star in True Detective Season 5 for HBO.
Speaking to a live audience at New York Comic Con, beloved and eccentric actor Nicolas Cage confirms that he will star in True Detective Season 5, the fifth instalment of HBO’s legendary anthology series.
At his New York Comic Con Spotlight panel, Nicolas Cage spoke to attendees about his upcoming involvement in Issa López’s upcoming fifth season of True Detective, following breakout success with True Detective: Night Country (the show’s fourth season).
“My agent’s out there somewhere listening,” Cage told the crowd. “You can only do so many movies back to back to back, and necessity is the mother of invention, you can connect those dots, too. What do I mean by necessity? Feed the family; don’t do too many movies back to back to back. So I think I’m probably gonna do another season of television. I think I might do a season of True Detective.”
“That’s okay that I’m the first to announce that, right?” He joked.
Each season of True Detective takes place in a different location with Season 5 set to take place in Jamaica Bay, New York.
Cage made his TV debut earlier this year with Spider-Noir, reprising his role from Marvel Animation’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. That show has since been cancelled but was nominated for several Emmy awards proving a success for Prime Video.
True Detective first broke the scene back in 2014 with its premiere season following a series of murders in Louisiana. The season followed a pair of detectives, the enigmatic Rust Cohle (Matthew McConaughey) and the laid-back Martin Hart (Woody Harrelson), and challenges each other’s faith, dedication, and future. The series helped normalize A-list stars as television actors, lifting a taboo that TV was lesser than films in regards to its prestige.
Others stars in the True Detective series include Vince Vaughn, Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams (Season 2), Mahershala Ali, Stephen Dorff, Scoot McNairy (Season 3), Jodie Foster, Christopher Eccleston, and Kali Reis (Season 4).
Cage is next set to appear in both David O. Russell’s Madden film for Prime Video and the third instalment in the Spider-Verse trilogy, Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse.
