According to a new report, DC Studios’ Lanterns is heading for a January 2025 production start.
Announced in early 2023, DC Studios’ Lanterns hasn’t had too much news, with the focus from co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran being directed towards Creature Commandos, Superman, and Peacemaker Season 2.
The series will follow Green Lanterns Hal Jordan and John Stewart as they investigate a mystery in the American heartland. James Gunn describes the show as similar to that of HBO’s True Detective Season 1.
Earlier this year, Gunn announced that Chris Mundy (Ozark), Damon Lindelof (Lost), and Tom King would be writing the series, setting the grounds for casting and principal photography soon afterwards.
This brings us to a new report from Matthew W. of Nexus Point News that suggests the series will film in Atlanta, Georgia, at the start of the new year and then continue filming until June of the same year. This is a more specific report of the same news that NPN also broke several months ago.
The series was previously rumoured to shoot in the United Kingdom, but NPN has heard that is no longer the case. Atlanta is part of the American heartland, so the location may perhaps be more relevant to the story of the show.
Matthew also commented on some casting specifics, with the casting team reportedly focusing on Hal Jordan first before casting John Stewart, perhaps for screen chemistry testing purposes. A noteworthy name is said to be coveted by DC Studios for the role of Hal, with prior reports noting an approximate ideal age range of 43-49 being set.
Lanterns is currently in its casting phase. The series is in development at HBO by DC Studios and has had eight episodes ordered.
