The first major casting for Marvel Studios’ upcoming ‘X-Men’ film is here with Samara Weaving taking on the role of The White Queen.

Development on the next iteration of Marvel’s iconic team, The X-Men, is happening fast. With director Jake Schreier in tow and the writing team behind The Bear and Beef attached, now is the time for casting to ramp up. Today, we got our first (second?) taste of what fans can expect from X-Men casting-wise with Deadline reporting that Samara Weaving has been tapped to play the mutant Emma Frost in the film.

In the comics, Emma Frost aka The White Queen has played both a heroic and a villainous (and every shade of grey in between) role to the X-Men, so it’s hard to extrapolate how the character will be used here. But, suffice to say these next couple weeks will be big for X-Men with much speculation that the full cast reveal will be unveiled at Disney’s D23 Expo this August.

Marvel Studios’ X-Men will be directed by Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier with a screenplay by Joanna Calo and Lee Sung Jin.
