The latest entry in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU) is quickly approaching. The plan for a live-action portrayal of Kraven the Hunter began with Sam Raimi’s interest to include the character in his fourth Spider-Man film. When the reboot happened, which gave rise to The Amazing Spider-Man series of films, the hunter was teased at the end of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. However, neither of these plans came to be.

When the SSU was announced, Sony began planning for a standalone Kraven film to be part of their shared universe. Richard Wenk was put on to write the screenplay and J. C. Chandor was announced to direct in 2021 alongside the casting of Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the lead role. Russell Crowe’s involvement in the film was announced back in February 2022 followed by filming picking up in Iceland later that month. Filming would go on until Mid-June 2022.

The film will mark a milestone for the SSU as it’s first R-rated film in the universe, A panel for the film was hosted at NYCC. Attendees were shown some scenes from the upcoming film with one attendee describing the film as “violent and vicious as fuck”.
