Here’s everything you need to know about Arcane Season 2 including the episode release dates, cast, plot and more. The final season in the first League of Legends animated series.
The second season of Arcane was first announced to be in production on November 20th 2021 following the conclusion of the first season. In the series’ official trailer it was indicated that season 2 will be the last for the series which came as a disappointment to many. However, this was not due to any cancellations on Netflix’s end, rather series co-creator Christian Linke finishing the story he had in mind:
From the very beginning, since we started working on this project, we had a very specific ending in mind, which means the story of Arcane wraps up with this second season. But ARCANE is just the first of many stories that we want to tell in Runeterra.
This is a promising sign as it indicates that more shows set in the world could be in the works. A more recent interview between Christian Linke and CinemaBlend reveals more about the decision to stop at two seasons:
We always had a specific story in mind. Look, you could have stretched it, I’m sure. But for us, it was always just like we started with this in mind. I think there’s also a personal angle to it as creatives.
We’ve all seen the TV shows, where clearly the writers are running out of juice. How inspired can you stay about the same thing, for how long? It’s been nine years for us, with these characters. I think there’s a responsibility aspect to this, also, where we’re like, this is what we had in mind.
