Today we review and recap Agatha All Along Episode 6 and predict what we can expect next for the series.
‘Agatha All Along’ Episode 6: A Second Chance At Life
Where we last left off in Agatha All Along, the coven was attacked by the Salem Seven who we learn are the children of the Salemites, Evanora Harkness’ (Kate Forbes) coven. They proceed to their third trial, the trial of the spirit witch where they communicate with various spirits before Agatha is possessed by her mother and forced to stay behind. Alice interferes and dies in the process leading a frustrated Teen to reveal his true identity as son of the Scarlet Witch, Billy Maximoff.
The latest episode works to explain how Billy Maximoff is back after seemingly meeting a definite end in the season finale of WandaVision. While the reveal was by no means unexpected the way they showed the death of William and the rebirth of Billy was intense. The sound of the heartbeats was very nerve-wracking despite knowing the outcome. I was also brought to tears when moments from WandaVision were played, the series is very close to my heart so it was a joy revisiting moments from the series. When Billy returns his ability to read minds becomes his greatest stress and it’s shown in a way that evokes the same sense of fear that we’ve seen in the previous episodes. I also liked the little detail where the Kaplan family’s dog, Greg, was able to sense that this was not the William he once knew.
The community and references around Agatha Harkness were a joy to witness, it showcased Agatha’s evil deeds in an enjoyable way with all the conspiracy theories associated with her. When Billy decides to locate Agatha Harkness and free her from the spell it gets even better with one of my most anticipated parts of the series. Seeing Billy’s perspective on Agnes Of Westview was an absolute blast. Looking at these moments and learning how Agatha exaggerated the events filled me with laughter and finally seeing Billy call himself Billy Maximoff was an amazing experience.
The episode ends back on the road. With the sigil now destroyed, Agatha and Billy are able to confront each other as genuinely as they can be. It was an emotional experience to witness, I was brought to tears upon seeing how happy Agatha was to reunite with Billy however the anger and frustration he has for Agatha now is really heartbreaking. I enjoyed the relationship the two shared during the second to fourth episodes and I hope they can be brought back to that point by the end of the series.
What Happens In Episode 6?
The episode opens with a 13 year-old William Kaplan celebrating his Bar Mitzvah at church, followed by the afterparty. A palm reading booth is present where he meets Lilia for the first time, she learns that William’s lifeline is broken in two while showing a reflection of Billy in her crystal ball. We learn that Lilia is the one who put the sigil on William/Billy, as we learnt in episode 4 the witch who cast the sigil won’t remember that they did it so she immediately forgets.
The bar mitzvah afterparty comes to a short end as an emergency alert is sent out regarding the Westview Anamoly (Hex). A brief shot of the Hex indicates that the beginning of the episode happens during the finale of WandaVision. While the Kaplan family is leaving, they get into a car crash where William is severely injured. We hear his heartbeat slowly start to fade until we hear the Maximoff kids (seen in WandaVision) telling each other goodnight, William’s heart begins to beat again and he shouts the name “Tommy!”. Indicating that Billy has now taken over his body. Alice, who is a police officer, appears and says that an ambulance is on the way.
At the hospital Billy is confused, unsure of what is happening. He’s shocked to see his new body, later his parents return and he’s able to read their minds. Billy is able to be discharged from the hospital and arrives at his “new” home. William’s dog, Greg, is the first to notice that Billy is here. Billy reads the Kaplan’s minds again and becomes stressed over their worries of losing their son. He shouts and goes to his room where he gains more context as to who William Kaplan is.
A three year time skip occurs and we are introduced to Billy’s love interest, Eddie (Miles Gutierrez-Riley). They talk about the sigil briefly before sharing a kiss. Teen reveals that he died during the car crash and that he’s something different. Billy reveals that he’s compiled information regarding the Hex and anything relating to it revealing that the Hex was witchcraft. They two meet with Bohnerrific69 (Evan Peters) also known as Randal Bohner who reveals information regarding Wanda’s kids and Agatha Harkness.
While listening to Lorna’s version of the ballad, he does research to discover what happened to the Maximoff family and Agatha Harkness, looking for leads to find out what happened that day. He gets the idea to explore the witches’ road from the ballad, further learning that the road will grant you what’s missing. We cut to Billy near Agatha’s (Kathryn Hahn) house, he intends to find a personal item in her house to help with a release spell that will free her from the Agnes persona. We learn that the events in episode 1 were extremely exaggerated with Billy being more willing to help compared to the idea of him Agatha created in her head. The events follow as we’ve already seen except we hear Teen call himself William Kaplan and Billy Maximoff.
We cut back to the Witches Road where Agatha frees herself from the mud, we see Billy destroying the sigil thus removing the redaction spell. The two confront each other, Agatha reveals that she had a hunch that Teen was Billy from the moment they met. Her suspicions were confirmed at the end of episode 5. Agatha comforts Billy telling him that he shouldn’t be ashamed of cheating death, the two get into an argument until Billy’s powers fail. Billy reveals that he came to the road in order to find Tommy, who he can sense but not locate. The two come to a compromise and work towards finishing the road.
Predicting Where We Are Heading Next
The trials will continue next episode with Agatha and Teen journeying to the Air Trial, Jennifer and Lilia will return as we’ve seen them in footage from the Air Trial. How the two make it there is unknown however I believe that Rio will help them escape from the mud pit that they were sent into during the events of Episode 5.
One aspect that we haven’t seen much of is Lilia’s tarot card reading, I assume this will come into play during the trial perhaps paying off all those moments she’s mentioned the various tarot card names throughout the series. The theme will be fantasy as we’ve seen Lilia as Glinda The Good, Agatha as The Wicked Witch, Jennifer as The Evil Queen and Billy as Maleficent. We will also explore Lilia’s past which was teased in Episode 3 with her hallucination which also saw a grim reaper-like character appear.
There will also be a confrontation with the seven that may ultimately end with their demise as seen by two members falling to their doom in the “The Tower” Tarot Card, I think Lilia will also perish in this trial as she hasn’t been seen in any footage relating to the Earth trial. This is also a stretch but every odd-numbered episode had a death of some kind. Episode 1 saw Wanda, Episode 3 saw Sharon Davis perish and Episode 5 saw the death of Alice Wu-Gullvier leading me to believe that another death is unfortunately on its way.
The Tower tarot card also teases Billy’s crown, perhaps episode 7 will see him use more of his magic. I don’t expect a full power up until the earth trial as it seems something intense is happening when Agatha holds his head.
