Following nearly 10 months of no casting updates, Matthias Schoenaerts has been cast as the villain of DC Studios’ Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
Despite being announced for almost two years, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow has finally casted a second member in the Craig Gillespie directed film. In a new scoop via Deadline, Matthias Schoenaerts has been confirmed to have been casted in the villain role of the film, playing antagonist to Milly Alcock’s titular Supergirl. This was affirmed in an Instagram story shared by Schoenaerts.
Now as for who this mysterious villain is, the comic the movie is based upon gives a pretty good indication. Krem of the Yellow Hills is the primary antagonist in Tom King’s Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow comic series (2021-2022). All signs point to this, with Schoenaerts looking the part and the film likely being a comic accurate adaptation.
Other Supergirl villains that have been rumoured for the DC Universe include Lobo, who is heavily rumoured to be played by Aquaman’s Jason Momoa. That claim has been backed up by many industry insiders, as well as hinted at by people close to DC Studios itself, such as Natalia Safran.
Matthias Schoenaerts has been working in the industry since the 90s, and has starred in several high profile projects including but not limited to, Luca Guadagnino’s A Bigger Splash, alongside Margot Robbie, Christian Bale, and John David Washington in Amsterdam, and in Netflix’s The Old Guard with Charlize Theron.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is directed by Craig Gillespie, written by Ana Nogueira, and stars Milly Alcock and Matthias Schoenaerts. James Gunn and Peter Safran will executive produce. The film is gearing up for a January 2025 production start ahead of its June 26, 2026 release.
