‘The Escapists 3’ Announcement Trailer: Now In 3D!

The world of The Escapists is back! On October 8th, 2026, Team17 debuted an announcement trailer for The Escapists 3 at the Triple-i Initiative Showcase which you can view below:
The 1 minute and 1 second-long trailer opens to a cutscene where the prison warden is teaching his guards about the ways that inmates may escape, during this lecture, everyone hears a strange noise. The camera pans down to reveal that an inmate is trying to escape through the vents. Going even lower, we see guards investigating one of the cells where they stumble across a hole that the inmates used to escape. We then see our group of inmates outside approaching the fence.
One inmate decides to use a Comb Blade while another brings Cutters, as the spotlight shines on our inmates, we switch to gameplay, which is now done in 3D (like the cutscene before it). The gameplay involves various snippets including the inmates jumping through the cut fence, running away from guards after the spotlight shines on them, making a hole in the wall of a prison cell, climbing to the rooftop and observing the surroundings before we see everyone using gliders.
More snippets follow including escaping from guards underground, our inmates arguing with each other, an inmate being hit with a bar of soap in the shower, an inmate being stunned by a laser, and one of the jobs, which involves loading boxes onto a conveyor belt. The inmates are seen at roll call laughing at someone who’s balding, hanging out at the cafeteria, meditating. Some more escaping snippets are shown, including jumping through the fence, running from guards both at night and in the guard dog area. Unfortunately, one of the inmates is being dragged back to his cell and his fellow inmates laugh at him.
We end on the key art which shows that the game is coming to Steam, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 next year.
What Is ‘The Escapists 3’ About?
As the name implies, The Escapists 3 is the latest entry in the prison escape sandbox series, now sporting a 3D art style. Players are placed in a variety of different prisons and are tasked with finding a way to escape. Read the official synopsis below:
“Plan ridiculous prison breaks, outsmart the guards and escape your way in The Escapists 3. Craft, sneak, fight and improvise through a new 3D prison sandbox, alone or with friends. Just remember to make roll call.”
Per the game’s description, it seems like The Escapists 3 will now feature a leveling system that carries over throughout the prison. Additionally, it’s teased that players will be able to decorate their cells, a first for the franchise:
“Earn XP as you play, unlock new skills and tailor your inmate to the way you want to escape. Develop different strengths, unlock new gameplay options and take what you’ve learned from one prison into the next.”
“While you’re at it, why not go full Stockholm Syndrome and customise your cell?”
The Escapists 3 is developed by Team 17. The game launches on Steam, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 in 2027.
