‘Fortnite’ Chapter 7: Season 4 Trailer: Welcoming Override

Iconic characters from various game franchises have assembled on the island to put a stop to Geno.

If you were playing Fortnite around 11:00 AM PT / 2:00 PM ET yesterday, you would’ve experienced the Fortnite Unstable Story Moment which gave us our first in-game tease towards the upcoming fourth season, Override.

The Fortnite Unstable Story Moment opens with newly recruited The New Seven member, Slone (now known as The Innovator) who readies the Zero Point Stabilization Device. She urges the Looper to be cautious as Geno is likely to plan his next move. While the laser is being fired, Geno hacks into the system, Slone regains control for a moment before Geno hacks it yet again causing the game to glitch with ad popups appearing frequently.

Inspired by Jones, Slone does something “really, really stupid” and reboots the game. When everyone is back in the loop, we witness Geno taking the Zero Point leaving behind only a mysterious cartridge in the centre of the island, the surrounding area now having a glitch effect. The cartridge cycles through various game franchises such as Tertris, Mega Man, Sonic The Hedgehog and more.

Following that event, we have the premiere of the first trailer for what is likely the last season of Chapter 7 (not counting any mini seasons that may pop up later this year). You can view the trailer below:

The trailer, which lasts for 1 minute and 38 seconds, opens with some lines of code. Jones is then seen falling into a pixelated wormhole of sorts loading into a neon city. A cartridge falls from the sky with a key art that says “Override,” once inserted in, Tetrominoes, fall from the sky and we do a 360-degree turn where we see some Fortnite original gaming characters as well as a Crash Bandicoot skin accompanied by a Spyro sidekick.

Jones spots a 1-UP Coin and runs towards it but it’s sent falling down to a revamped Fortnite island. Before Jones falls we spot a Bushranger Sprite with a more blocky look. All the Fortnite original characters follow Jones (they appear to be part of this season’s battlepass) and Jones lands in a location inspired by Green Hill from Sonic The Hedgehog. Sonic grabs the 1-UP coin and Jones tries to follow by using Sonic’s Dash (likely a powerup from the Sonic Sprite we see Jones having on his back). In that sequence we also see Shadow and Eggman next to the loop-de-loop.

In the next segment we see Joker from Persona 5 who equips a Tails Sprite giving him temporary flight. A wide shot of the island is shown where we see approximately four new POIs we then see the updated version of the Sinister Strip POI, a Pac-Man Ghost island, some ruins, and two cartridges falling from the sky, one with a Sonic The Hedgehog and another with a fighting game character. We transition to a 2D fight screen where Jones wins the battle with his pickaxe in the background a Klombo Sprite is seen. Jones equips Mega Man’s blaster and we see a Mega Man skin run by.

Next up is a blocky character wearing yet another new Sprite which resembles an assassin. In the new POI another character is seen wearing a Sprite that resembles the hero, Killswitch from Chapter 6, Season 3 , they appear to use a dual-wielded weapon from the world of Cyberpunk 2077. Another cartridge is inserted with what seemingly gives an accuracy buff as seen in the bottom right corner, in the next shot we’re introduced to the 8-Bit Shotgun which displays a HUD tracking “score” and “combo.” A rabbit sprite is shown in front of the current Mortal Kombat characters and we see more gameplay with the 8-Bit Shotgun, the rabbit sprite seemingly gives a jump boost.

Finally, a 1-UP Cartridge is inserted, we switch to a cinematic where Jones has gotten the 1-UP Coin, he’s being surrounded by soldiers led by Doctor Eggman, The Deer from 99 Nights in the Forest and Geno who now wears a Black and Red armour. Geno grabs the 1-UP Coin from Jones and a Health bar appears above Geno with 100 Shield and Infinite HP as he shoots Jones with a pistol. As Jones is shot, he wakes up in a hospital bed, he shouts, “THE VISITOR IS GENO.” Peely, the Klombo Sprite and a King Sprite look at him with concern. Peely shrugs and continues to play his videogame while Jones goes back to sleep.
