Giancarlo Esposito is an American actor born in Denmark in 1958 to an Italian father and an African-American mother. Giancarlo has been acting since the late-70s and the early-80s making his film debut in the sports drama Running directed by Steven Hilliard Stern and starring Michael Douglas. He also had his first iconic role in Spike Lee’s 1989 film, Do the Right Thing.

Giancarlo managed to land a role in Vince Gilligan’s Breaking Bad, appearing in the 11th episode of Season 2 as his most iconic role to date, Gus Fring. As well as appearing in the prequel spin-off, Better Call Saul, as the same character.

Giancarlo has always been fancast in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the DC Extended Universe as iconic Marvel/DC characters such as Professor X, Doctor Doom, and Mister Freeze. The actor commented on possibly being in talks to play Magneto, “Doctor Freeze” (who he likely means to be Mister Freeze), Doctor Doom, and Professor X during a panel at ComicCon San Antonio 2 years ago.

Yesterday, during a panel at CCXP and as reported by Collider, the actor revealed that he has been cast in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a secret role which fans have not theorized about before in the past. He goes on to tease that his appearance as this new original character is “sooner rather than later” and “better than you can imagine.”

Where Could We Potentially See Him?

It’s currently unknown how soon his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be, on top of that it’s difficult to know what to expect his role to be since it’s an original new character. It’s possible that he could be playing a character in Deadpool & Wolverine since insider Daniel Richtman has reported previously on the film having reshoots to add more cameos. Another possible theory is that he’s playing an original character set in the 60s in The Fantastic Four.

Even if he isn’t in Deadpool & Wolverine or The Fantastic Four, It would still be a delight to see Giancarlo on the big screen regardless of what role he will be playing, as he’s an actor who is one of a kind.
