Illuminaton’s Chris Meledandri Says ‘Secret Life Of Pets 3’, ‘Sing 3’ & Original Film Are In Development
Illumination executive officer Chris Meledandri revealed the development of a new Secret Life of Pets movie, a sequel to Sing 2, and an original film.
In a new interview ahead of the Annecy Festival premiere of Minions & Monsters, Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri revealed both The Secret Life of Pets 3 and Sing 3 are in development at the studio, as well as a secret original film.
Speaking to Collider, Meledandri revealed that third instalments in the Secret Life of Pets and Sing franchises are currently in active development, though their next film will be an original film. He also confirmed that Chris Renaud will return to direct the former.
“They’re both, I would say, in active development. It took us a while to come back to Pets, waiting for an idea that we felt really would earn its place rather than simply just making another Pets movie. I think we found a way into a Secret Life of Pets story that I certainly love. We’re working with Chris Renaud, who not only was the co-director of Despicable Me with Pierre Coffin, but also the original director of Pets. So, we are well underway, working hard on an idea that I’m hoping that we’ll make soon,” Meledandri said.

He then revealed how devoted director Garth Jennings is to the Sing franchise.
“Garth Jennings is focusing all of his energy right now with the team at Illumination, developing what I believe is going to be a Sing movie that is honoring what we all love about the film, but is also introducing some entirely new ideas into the story,” he continued.
Finally, the chief executive officer and producer confirmed that they have a loose slate planned out for the rest of the decade, though their next film following Minions & Monsters will be an original film with “no underlying material.”
This is the first news of this original film, though no updates as to the cast, plot, or filmmakers exist.

Illumination will next debut Minions & Monsters at the Annecy Film Festival, and it marks the seventh Minions-oriented film. That film stars Pierre Coffin, Trey Parker, Allison Janney, Christoph Waltz, Jeff Bridges, Jesse Eisenberg, Zoey Deutch, Bobby Moynihan, Phil LaMarr, and George Lucas. We’ll be attending an early screening for the film early this week, so stay tuned for that review.
