‘Bad Magpie’ Reveal Trailer: One Sinister Bird

Last Sunday was the premiere of the latest XBOX Games Showcase, and in that presentation we saw the reveal trailer for Bad Magpie, a top-down adventure game from Milktooth, which you can view below:

The trailer, which lasts for 1 minute and 14 seconds, opens in a field of flowers, where we meet our protagonist, The Magpie, who appears to have broken one of their wings. Magpie pecks a nearby tree and a branch falls down. They proceed to scrape the branch across the rock igniting the branch. We zoom in on Magpie’s face, they’re mesmerised by the flames, and we see one of the flowers mesmerised as well. The flower and many other nearby flowers soon realise this isn’t good as Magpie sets the flower field ablaze.

Following that shocking moment, we see various snippets of gameplay including Magpie swimming in a puddle, jumping between TV screens, attacking a mouse with a shovel, offering something up to a giant snake, chasing a mouse (holding a key) with a burning book, opening a box to reveal a piano for a puzzle, opening a shed, getting electrocuted, and finally, we see the Magpie trying to catch up with their flock. Due to their broken wing, they’re unable to fly, and as the flock moves on, Magpie calls out to them but they don’t turn back. They stay there calling out until it becomes night and begins to rain, Magpie is disappointed.

We continue with more snippets of gameplay including Magpie using a microphone on a tin can telephone to break some glass, screeching at a dog, chasing a runaway computer, getting chased by a hungry ostrich, plucking worms from the dirt, kidnapping a mouse from the playground, angering two mice by ringing a bell, breaking a wall, seesaw, fence and shooting a firework at an abandoned car.

The final scene of the trailer shows Magpie carrying a shiny tin can to a mysterious entity that resembles a star. The title is revealed, followed by a release window of 2027 alongside available platforms.

What Is Bad Magpie About?

Bad Magpie is a chaotic adventure game that tells the story of a Magpie and their obsession with shiny things and destruction. Read the official synopsis below:

“You are a magpie with one wing, a missing flock, and an unhealthy obsession with a fallen star. Steal shiny trinkets, cause chaos, and stick your beak where it doesn’t belong.”

Bad Magpie is developed by Milktooth. The game is coming to Xbox platforms and PC (via Steam) in 2027.
