Earlier today, on the Marvelvision podcast, Devin Faraci shared a rumour he had heard regarding a potential series about Barry Keoghan’s Joker, first seen in The Batman, receiving his own television series akin to The Penguin. While Faraci doesn’t have the best track record, insider Jeff Sneider confirmed this report in his The InSneider newsletter.
Sneider reports that the series will be set between the events of The Batman Part II (scheduled for release in 2026) and the currently undated The Batman Part III, serving as a bridge between the two stories. In addition to this, Sneider reports that Keoghan is expected to reprise his role as The Joker in the upcoming sequel which is set to release on October 2, 2026. He also reports that it is currently unknown whether this series will be an HBO or Max Original.
The move comes after the huge success of The Penguin, which spun off The Batman in an effort to bridge the stories of the first and second film, whilst building the world of Gotham further. The Penguin is the first produced TV series from DC Studios and was released as an HBO Original despite being developed for Max. It’s possible Joker will follow suit, releasing on Max as part of a wider plan to revitalize the cable channel, alongside DC Studios’ Lanterns.
While no story details have been shared regarding the potential series, it’s likely it would show some of the background between the Batman and the Joker, which was previously alluded to in a deleted scene released by Warner Bros (see below).
The series would be the third solo Joker project, following the highly controversial Joker duology, which released its final film Joker: Folie à Deux last month.
Matt Reeves and his production company 6th & Idaho Productions are expected to produce and are currently producing the second The Batman film, the second season of Batman: Caped Crusader, and the upcoming Dynamic Duo film at DC Studios.
