‘X-Men’ Unveiled At D23: Cast & Release Date

It’s the beginning of the end for this current saga of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga begins with Avengers: Doomsday on December 18th, 2026 and wraps up in the sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars on December 18th, 2027. However, the future looks bright as Marvel Studios has already begun laying the groundwork for what is currently fan as dubbed, “The Mutant Saga.” Back in July at SDCC, Marvel announced the Shawn Levy directed Ghost Rider (starring Ryan Gosling as the titular character) and Ryan Coogler directed Black Panther 3 (starring David Jonsson as T’challa Jr). Today, Marvel wraps up its 2028 film line-up with the announcement of their X-Men reboot film directed by Jake Schreier during the Disney Entertainment Showcase at D23. We’ll take a look at the cast and release date for X-Men in this article.

Sadie Sink Is Jean Grey

Sadie Sink will play Jean Grey. Jean Grey is a mutant with telepathic and telekinetic abilities, she’s also associated with the cosmic entity known as The Phoenix. Professor Charles Xavier mentors her and over time she becomes a member of the X-Men and a right hand to him. Sink, 24, is best known for her roles as Max Mayfield in Stranger Things and Ellie in The Whale. Jean Grey made her live action debut in July’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day and is set to return in the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars.

Samara Weaving Is Emma Frost

Samara Weaving will play Emma Frost. Emma Frost is a fellow mutant telepath and commonly referred to as “The White Queen of the Hellfire Club.” She often clashes with the X-Men but eventually becomes a prominent head on the mutant nation of Krakoa. Weaving, 34, is best known for her roles as Grace in Ready or Not and Edie in Eenie Meanie.

Kit Connor Is Scott Summers / Cyclops

Kit Connor will play Scott Summers, also known as Cyclops. Cyclops is a mutant with the ability to shoot beams of energy from his eyes. In the comics, he becomes one of the first members of the X-Men after Charles Xavier rescues him from Mister Sinister’s orphanage. Connor, 22, is best known for  his roles as Nick Nelson in Heartstopper where he’s joined by fellow Marvel alumni, Joe Locke. Kit Connor is set to star in the upcoming Elden Ring film from A24.

Adam Driver Is Nathaniel Millbury / Mister Sinister

Adam Driver will play Nathaniel Essex / Mister Sinister. Nathaniel Essex is a Victorian era scientist obsessed with the concept of evolution and predicted the rise of mutants. After an encounter with Apocalypse, he’s changed into the villain we know today as Mister Sinister. Driver, 42, is best known for his role as Kylo Ren in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. Nathaniel Essex is also set to make an appearance in the upcoming Marvel’s Wolverine from Insomniac Games only on PlayStation 5.

Christopher Abbott Is Charles Xavier / Professor X

Christopher Abbott will play Charles Xavier aka Professor X. Charles is a mutant telepath and a specialist in mutant biology and sociology. By forming the X-Men, he carries out his goal of human and mutant coexistence. Abbott, 40, is best known for his roles as Alfie Blessington in Poor Things and The Foreigner in Kraven The Hunter.

Inde Navarette Is Anna Marie / Rogue

Inde Navarrette will play Rogue. Rogue has the uncontrollable ability to absorb another person’s abilities, powers, memories and even personalities with a simple touch. The person absorbed becomes temporarily unconscious as a result. In the comics, she is the adopted daughter of Mystique and Destiny, after learning that Captain Marvel (who went by Ms. Marvel at the time) would pose a great threat to the life of her and her parents, she faces off with the hero and ends up absorbing her super-strength, flight, and psyche permanently. After this experience she seeks the help of Charles Xavier, Mystique’s enemy who welcomes her to the X-Men despite the others’ disapproval. Inde Navarrette had her break out role in Obsession earlier this year.

Maya Boyd Is Ororo Munroe / Storm

Maya Boyd will play Ororo Munroe also known as Storm. Storm is a mutant with the ability to control the weather and manipulate energies. She was orphaned after a plane crashed into her home and by the time she was a teenager she travelled to Africa where she was declared a goddess by the people of the Serengeti plains after she used her abilities to ease droughts in the desert. She would eventually be approached by Charles Xavier to join the X-Men and was given the name Storm.

When Does X-Men Hit Theatres?

The upcoming X-Men film, with this cast directed by Jake Schreier has a release date of May 5th, 2028 and is the first film of the next saga.

X-Men is directed by Jake Schreier and stars Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Christopher Abbott as Charles Xavier and more. The film hits theatres on May 15th, 2028.
