‘The Batman Part II’ Gets Delayed Yet Another Year To October 2027
DC fans have been saddened by the delay of Matt Reeves upcoming The Batman Part II, starring Robert Pattinson, Jeffrey Wright, and Colin Farrell.
One of the most anticipated superhero films ever, The Batman Part II, has just received yet another delay, moving a year from its previous date.
When The Batman hit theatres back in March 2022, following an onslaught of delays and production troubles rooted in the pandemic, audiences were relieved to think that the Matt Reeves’ directed sequel wouldn’t take as long to grace the cinema screens. Suffice to say, they were wrong with The Batman Part II now releasing in theatres October 1, 2027.
Originally announced for October 3, 2025, The Batman Part II was first delayed for a full year to October 2026 due to the SAG-AFTRA/WGA strikes, which set back the schedules of those attached to the upcoming Batman sequel. The film now has received a second major delay, with Warner Bros. Pictures moving one of their biggest films slated for 2026, The Batman Part II.
DC Studios’ co-head James Gunn revealed that the reason for the delay was the lack of completion on Matt Reeves’ and Mattson Tomlin’s script, which has been in progress since early 2022.
Yes, it is true. The only reason for the delay is there isn’t a full script (those of you who follow me here probably know that already). Matt is committed to making the best film he possibly can, and no one can accurately guess exactly how long a script will take to write. Once there is a finished script, there is around two years for pre-production, shooting and post-production on big films.
The Batman Part II is currently set to be the third story in The Batman Epic Crime Saga, from DC Studios and Warner Bros., following up The Batman and The Penguin which were released in theatres and on HBO respectively.
The Batman followed our titular hero take down The Riddler (Paul Dano) and embark on a journey to rid Gotham City of corruption. The Penguin saw the return of Colin Farrell’s Oz Cobb, as he furthered the corruption of Gotham City and positioned himself on the throne of the criminal hierarchy, in the end teasing more confrontation with Robert Pattinson’s Caped Crusader.
The delay for The Batman Part II does bring rise to theories about what will actually be next for the saga, with Matt Reeves speaking to The Penguin showrunner Lauren LeFranc about a potential season 2, and the finale of the same show setting up bigger things for half-sisters Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz) and The Hangman (Cristin Milioti).
The Batman Part II will be directed by Matt Reeves, written by Reeves and Mattson Tomlin, and is set to star Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb, and more.
