Two of horror’s biggest upcoming names, Zach Cregger and Brian Duffield, are uniting to work on an adaptation of Siren Head, an internet horror mainstay created by Trevor Henderson.

Set to be directed by Duffield, who is soon releasing Whalefall, the film package was reportedly won in an intense bidding war by Warner Bros. Discovery, who have a good relationship with Cregger following the release of Weapons, as he is now writing a prequel surrounding Amy Madigan’s Gladys (due out 2028) and a separate sci-fi film titled The Flood (also due out 2028).

The move to create this film is a natural one following the recent success of Backrooms, where webseries creator Kane Parsons directed the feature film adaptation and skyrocketed it into fame. That movie, whilst it falls mostly into the liminal horror space, also concerns itself with large scary creatures, much like Siren Head. Created by Trevor Henderson, the creepypasta figure was created in 2018 and has since gone on to spawn games, short films, video series, and wide-spanning lore. It’s this influence that was likely the appeal for Warner Bros, especially packaged with such influential creatives.

Brian Duffield is currently working on Whalefall, a film where a whale swallows a scuba diver, as well as the next film in the Alien franchise, which he is apparently writing. Cregger will return to the horror space later this year with Resident Evil, rebooting the long failed franchise. Both of these upcoming 2026 films star Austin Abrams.

The hunt for internet horror IP grows, with Amazon MGM developing Seasons, starring Lily James, I Pretended to Be a Missing Girl, starring Sydney Sweeney (which also landed at Warner Bros), as well as inevitable sequels to Backrooms at A24. On the flip side, an adaptation of Skibidi Toilet is also in the works.
