In a recent interview with GQ, Ridley Scott spoke on his successful career and what was coming next, which included plans for two films to shoot in 2025.
Quotes taken from GQ’s interview with Ridley Scott.
Ridley Scott is one of the most celebrated and influential directors in cinema history, known for his visionary storytelling and ability to create immersive worlds across a wide range of genres. His career took off with the groundbreaking science-fiction horror Alien, which redefined the genre with its atmospheric tension and iconic design. He followed it with Blade Runner, a film that wasn’t initially a commercial success but has since become a seminal work in sci-fi for its philosophical depth and futuristic aesthetics. Over the decades, Scott has shown remarkable versatility, delivering epics like Gladiator, which won five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, as well as acclaimed dramas like Thelma & Louise and gripping thrillers like Black Hawk Down.
Scott’s enduring relevance stems from his adaptability and relentless work ethic. He combines technical mastery with a sharp eye for storytelling, often pushing the boundaries of visual and narrative innovation. Even in his later years, Scott has continued to evolve, embracing cutting-edge technology in films like The Martian, which received critical acclaim for its optimistic portrayal of human ingenuity. His ability to work across different genres—from historical epics to science fiction, thrillers, and dramas—ensures his films remain fresh and engaging.
What keeps Scott at the top of his game is his passion for filmmaking and his commitment to challenging himself with ambitious projects. He continues to take risks, as seen in his recent ventures like House of Gucci and Napoleon, proving that he remains one of the most exciting directors in the industry. Whilst these films aren’t necessarily renowned for their quality, it says a lot about the attitude of Scott, in that he is making films and crafting stories that he is passionate about as opposed to doing whatever the money will bring. His legendary status is cemented not only by his impressive filmography but by his influence on generations of filmmakers who have drawn inspiration from his groundbreaking work.

What Films Will Ridley Scott Shoot In 2025?
In a recent interview with GQ, Scott gave details on his upcoming projects and gave an idea on when they might go into production.
When asked if he will increase his production schedule from a movie a year, Scott responded:
“We might do two movies,” he explains. At the time of our interview, the plan is for a postapocalyptic survival story, The Dog Stars, followed by a Bee Gees biopic, You Should Be Dancing. “One in April and start the next one in September.”
The Dog Stars recently received an update in that its main star was being replaced, as Paul Mescal was now pre-occupied with work on Sam Mendes’ Beatles movies which meant that he could no longer feature. Instead, Jacob Elordi has taken up the main role and production is moving very quickly, with shooting seemingly going ahead in April – Scott has made it clear that this is his next project.
But that wasn’t always going to be the case: he had originally planned to do his Bee Gees biopic next and it was already cast and staffed ready for a production start in early 2025, but disagreements with the studio meant that he pulled out and delayed the movie indefinitely:
“The deal—the studio changed the goalposts,” he says. “I said, ‘You can’t do that.’ They insisted. I said, ‘Well, I’m going to warn you, I will walk, because I will go on to the next movie.’ They didn’t believe me, and I did.” Scott signals that he expects that these differences will be solved, and for the project to go ahead as his year’s second movie, but for now he has set it aside. “I was being asked to go too far,” he says. “And I said, ‘No. Next!’ They didn’t like my deal. So I said, I’ll move on. I’m expensive, but I’m fucking good.”
Now, it’s unclear whether the cast will remain the same due to the change in production but it appears that Scott expects it to be moving again before the end of the year, meaning that we could see both You Should Be Dancing and The Dog Stars in 2026, though that seems unlikely with the disagreements continuing.
