A new report alleges that Paul Thomas Anderson’s next film will be titled The Battle of Baktan Cross.
Beginning production in January 2024, Paul Thomas Anderson’s next film garnered a high-profile cast including Leonardo DiCaprio, Regina Hall and Sean Penn. The film was shot in California under the working title BC Project and due to some period elements, was theorised to be an adaptation of Thomas Pynchon’s Vineland.
Now, Jeff Sneider of TheInSneider.com reports that this next film does indeed have a title. In his latest newsletter, published on August 1, 2024, he mentions that the film will be titled The Battle Of Baktan Cross.
What this title may mean is anyone’s guess, but one Reddit user theorised on the title back in April 2024
The name Baktan Cross has been seen on police vehicles and set pieces while the film was in production, and as Reddit user /u/JHinen so aptly suggests, the town name may be inspired by the Mayan calendar term.
The Battle of Baktan Cross stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Regina Hall, Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Alana Haim, Chase Infiniti, Teyana Taylor, Wood Harris, and Shayna McHayle. The film is directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and is due for worldwide release on August 8, 2025.
