Created by Pendleton Ward, Adventure Time first graced Cartoon Network’s screens back in 2010, going on to spawn ten seasons. The series followed the human, Finn, and the anthropomorphic shapeshifting dog, Jake, as they protect the Land of Ooo from various threats.

The show was a huge success and led to two spinoff shows, 2020’s Distant Lands and 2023’s Fionna and Cake. Now, over 14 years after the first episode of the show aired, it has been revealed in an exclusive report by Variety, ahead of the Warner Bros. Animation panel at Annecy Animation Festival, that a new film and two additional spin-off series are in development.

The first of these spin-off series is titled Adventure Time: Side Quests and will be produced by Cartoon Network Studios and aimed at a young audience. It follows a young Finn as he fantasises about adventures alongside his best friend Jake. The series will include standalone episodes that will feature younger versions of fan-favourite characters such as Simon/Ice King. Nate Cash is attached to the serious and Adam Muto will serve as showrunner.

The second series, Adventure Time: Heyo BMO, is a preschool series that follows BMO and follows the description that reads: “After settling into a new neighborhood, BMO and a group of new friends will face challenges that are more appropriate for younger viewers.” Adam Muto will write for the series and Ashlyn Anstee will serve as a storyboard artist.

As for the movie, it is currently untitled and no plot details are available but Rebecca Sugar (Steven Universe), Patrick McHale (Over the Garden Wall) and Adam Muto will all return to work on the film.
