First ‘Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning’ Trailer Promises High (Altitude) Stakes Action

When Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning premiered back in 2023, when it was still called Dead Reckoning – Part One, director-writer Christopher McQuarrie told outlets that The Final Reckoning would not be the final film in the saga and that they [he, Tom Cruise, and other producers] were developing ideas for future instalments. Tom Cruise himself, the man behind the Ethan Hunt mantle, expressed interest in returning too. And now with The Final Reckoning here, and tracking well, all eyes are on the future of the franchise.

This article contains major spoilers for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.

Mission: Impossible as a concept follows Ethan Hunt (Cruise), the leader of the Impossible Mission Force, as he attempts to solve impossible tasks at the behest of humanity. They answer to no government and no people, completing tasks for the good of mankind. Dead Reckoning saw Ethan and his team pitted against an artificial intelligence named The Entity and its lackey, Gabriel Martinelli (Esai Morales).

By the end of The Final Reckoning, Ethan defeats the threat and saves the world, also expanding his team. The final scene of the movie sees Ethan at Trafalgar Square in London, amongst a crowd of people. He sees Theo Degas (Greg Tarzan Davis), a cop who he recruited after he was assigned to chase Ethan. Then he sees Paris (Pom Klementieff), an assassin who worked with Gabriel for The Entity but switched sides once Gabriel nearly killed her. He turns and sees Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg), his now longest comrade, following the death of Luther Stickell (Ving Rhames). And finally, he turns and sees Grace (Hayley Atwell), who hands him a drive that now contains The Entity. The group disbands, and Ethan disappears amongst the crowd of people, teasing further adventures with this new IMF team.

This, coupled with Luther’s final message to Ethan, ensures that Ethan Hunt will continue saving the world, for it is his destiny. If the box office and reviews prove well, then it would be a no-brainer for Cruise, McQuarrie, and Paramount Pictures.

Does ‘Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning’ Have A Post Credit Scene?

No, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning does not have a post-credit scene.

What Will Happen In ‘Mission: Impossible 9’?

For a possible Mission: Impossible 9, fans could expect the IMF team to return against an impossible threat. It may also feature the return of past characters, such as Jeremy Renner’s William Brandt, and a possible resurrection of Rebecca Ferguson’s Ilsa Faust, who died in Dead Reckoning – Part One. Fans theorised that she would return, following an underwhelming death scene in DR that fans deemed a fakeout. Another character who could return is Vanessa Kirby’s Alanna Mitsopolis, who was meant to return in this film following appearances in past M:I films.
